1.06 The Sin Eater
Summary
Crane gets kidnapped! And it turns out he's a Mason! Abbie and Jenny work together to rescue him! Also, we get lots of flashbacks, find out how Crane came to join the revolutionaries, and finally get some background on Katrina. Including why she disliked Crane when they first met.
Originally aired November 4th, 2013
Questions
- What did you think of Ichabod and Katrina's house?
- Did you find Crane's conversion believable?
- What else would you like to see in flashbacks?
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the episode?
Re: 1.06 The Sin Eater
I'm not quite sure why the American rebels seem to be the only ones interested in averting the apocalypse (and/or the only ones who are aware that's an impending apocalypse that needs averting), but I'm kind of hoping we get some Brits (other than Crane) working toward the same task, just for balance.
Irving remains an enigma to me. Does he really not know what's going on, or is he just pretending? He's awfully tolerant for someone who's as skeptical as he claims.
Abbie and Jenny working together was awesome. They make a fantastic team when they're not fighting.
And Abbie with Crane after she's accepted his decision was just heartbreaking.

Re: 1.06 The Sin Eater
My mind kept flashing to the movie Sleepy Hollow and trying to fit that in with this and it wasn't working. But to the house, I think it could have been something that was projected as to what could have come of them remaining together, however it is possible that Katrina was pregnant when Ichabod died and there was a child who was "sacrificed" along with the protection that she placed on Ichabod to protect him.
- Did you find Crane's conversion believable?
Crane talking to Abbie so made me tear up. I wanted him to go with her to the Sin Eater instead of drinking the poison.
- What else would you like to see in flashbacks?
I liked the flashbacks, but I kind of got annoyed by them since it was like long pieces/scenes. It felt like present day stuff was breaking up past stuff which would make present a flash forward. Although I did like the story Crane told the Freemason guy. And I liked that Katrina appeared to Abbie.
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the episode?
I'd give it an 8.5. Definitely one of the higher rated episodes out of a season that's been fantastic

Re: 1.06 The Sin Eater
- Oh my gosh they can't film stuff like the opening baseball scene and the hand-holding and the hugging and the "he means a lot to you" stuff and NOT EXPECT ME TO SHIP ABBIE/ICHABOD. I'm sorry, I completely wash my hands of the fact that I ship it, I can't be held responsible when they are pushing EVERY ONE OF MY OTP BUTTONS. lol.
- Ladies loving baseball is one of my favorite things cause *I* love baseball so I enjoy when it's not just ~~a man's thing on television. HIGH FIVE FOR ABBIE. She explained why she loved it so well :D
- Sooo glad we got to see more of Katrina and Ichabod's backstory. It was kinda frustrating not knowing a thing about them together or like anything at all about Katrina.
- Jenny and Abbie bonding as they do demon research yay sisters! <3
- Aww John Noble. I couldn't not see him as Walter Bishop though, lol.
Questions:
- The house scenes made me sad, because their "house" was all decrepit and wasting away. And what was up with the freaky doll child? O_o
- Ichabod's conversion seemed convincing enough to me. They always established Ichabod as a very liberal/forward thinking person and right at the beginning he didn't really love the idea of the "interrogation" he had to do. That whole part of the story took place over several days so I can see it. Plus when your boss turns into a demon in front of you I guess that kind of gives you a kick in the pants to switch sides, lol.
- I'm actually not a huge fan of flashbacks. They can be helpful storytelling devices but idk I mostly just want to see the story as it takes place in current time. There's nothing specific I want to see. I didn't mind the flashbacks this episode so much as long as next week there isn't also like 20 minutes of show taking place in flashback form.
- I'd rate it a solid 9. I mean, I think they are a little fast and loose with logic when it comes to plot but honestly I am SO ENTERTAINED by this show that I really don't care. I'm here for the characters and their interactions. XD

pretty fanceeeeeee
- Did you find Crane's conversion believable?
yeah sure, it was fast but i think if they drew it out a million years i'd be annoyed about it, so it was interesting to see the two warring sides.
- What else would you like to see in flashbacks?
The love story is cuteee. I wouldn't mind more Ichabod/Katrina, i don't care about the revolution though
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the episode?
a solid 8+ I enjoyed it probably the best in a while? maybe. John Noble, James Frain AND craig parker helped, but also Katrina AND Jenny!!!

-This show is very green. Or is it it just me? I wonder if there's a significance to the color palette.
-Hooray for Crane being a proto-Sherlock! With his deducing and quick wittedness.
-Abbie and Jenny! Yayyy
-Interesting: so the Masons aren't evil in this show? They're always evil in everything. They're a top secret organization, but their mission is to stop the apocalypse instead of oppress the proletariat and hoard all the gold.
-Loved the creepy nowhere-house Abbie meets Katrina in. Also love that Abbie is getting better at taking all of this in stride.
-What is UP with Irving? Does he know? Does he not know?? Either way, he's very funny. Orlando Jones! <3
-I give this ep a 7, but I think it'll take more eps to really gauge the scale the entire show is on.
Re: 1.06 The Sin Eater
Re: 1.06 The Sin Eater
VERY VERY GOOD EPISODE!
Re: 1.06 The Sin Eater
Other than that, idk I think much of it went over my head and it sort of annoys me that any time two women are in the same room together it's just to talk about a guy. The episode felt sort of flat.
Re: 1.06 The Sin Eater
The house was large for the time period, but I gather Crane came from money? I wonder at that backdrop - Katrina usually met him in the forest and yet she meets Abbie in a mental version of the house she shared with her husband? Was she trying to remind Abbie what she is to Ichabod or am I reaching?
His conversion to the 'cause' did seem somewhat abrupt, it had only been a matter of a few days? But the I also gathered he'd seen demons before or something? Or sensed something? He felt a kindred spirit in Katrina the moment they met - and I think it was meant to be more than in the romantic sense.
Regarding the "Sin Eater", sadly I couldn't unsee Walter Bishop.
Re: 1.06 The Sin Eater
1.07 The Midnight Ride
Crane can't believe people in the 21st century pay for water, a bunch of Masons lose their heads to the Horseman, Luke and Abbie both have run-ins with KindOfDead!Andy, and Irving finally gets his proof that the Horseman exists. Plus we got some flashbacks of Paul Revere, and Abbie totally misses a chance to explain air travel to Crane. Oh, and Crane learns that the internet is for porn!

Questions
- If Irving didn't actually believe any of it until this episode--or at least hoped it wasn't true--why did he go along with Ichabod and Abbie all this time?
- How long do you think it will take before Luke figures out what's going on?
- Is that really end of the Horseman? Or will he escape before the end of the season?
- Favourite scene?
Re: 1.07 The Midnight Ride
Irving could be lying, but I feel like he was telling the truth about hoping it was all a lie, which means he didn't really know what as going on. But if that's true--if he's not in on the conspiracy--then who covered for Crane with Oxford? Did he do it despite not knowing the truth, or is there someone else on their side?
I'm hoping to see Luke join the team soon, but he was pretty freaked out by Andy, so I guess we'll see. Maybe by the season finale?
So many favourite scenes! Crane with a laptop! Crane leaving voicemail! Abbie and Crane bonding over their mutual loneliness! Also, I kind of want to see Crane in a supermarket.
Can't wait for next week!
Re: 1.07 The Midnight Ride
Re: 1.07 The Midnight Ride
I also really enjoyed that they "dealt" with the horsemen (idek if he might be back or what) and its only episode 7!!!!
Plus, adorable ichabod & Abbie moments
needs more jenny and katrina! :D

Definitely worried about Luke. When he didn't pick up Abbie's call, that made me think he's going to be listening to all the wrong people. But great to see John Cho back -- now if we can figure out a way to see Corbin again I'll be all happy.
Least favorite scene was when Abbie blew out the head-lantern. Otherwise, most of them. I'm not sure how they do it, but scenes and even humor that should be so cliché keeps working, week after week. Maybe Katrina cast a spell over the show?
Really excited for the Mills Sister roommates.

Re: 1.07 The Midnight Ride
I might be in the minority, but I don't like Luke. I don't want him to go crazy because of seeing dead!Andy not dead and all, but I don't trust him either. He reminds me of those good looking guys who know they're good looking and that everyone is just going to fawn all over them or whatever.
I think someone is going to find a way to release the Horseman. It can't be that "easy".
I think my favorite scenes were when Ichabod went on his rants about having to buy bottled water (reminded me so much of what my dad says and his refusal to buy bottled water), Ichabod in the museum...just about any scene where Ichabod is learning that the country he fought for isn't like it used to be. Also, internet porn! when he closed the laptop, then opened it and the lady was still there...haha!

The Masons = The Men of Letters??
The whole fish out of water thing is still really amusing to me. And I don't even mind the editorializing about 'kids these days and how crazy they are with their million dollar lattes and their water polluting ways." It's all worth it for Crane's Aural Missive.
Oh and now more than ever I really want Abbie to be bisexual.
Loving Orlando Jones and how smooth and badass he is.

I thought the bottled water vs. tap water was.. meh. I felt like they could've picked something better but I can't think of what atm. Everyone hates poor Paul Revere's inaccurate history.
I really liked all the Irving screen time and am glad (?) Andy is back.
I'm sure it's not the end of the Horseman, it just keeps him from going on a killing spree every week. :)
Re: 1.07 The Midnight Ride
1.08 Necromancer
Crane and Abbie use Dead!Andy to question the Horseman while Irving teams up with Jenny to fight the Hessians who are working to free the Horseman. We also find out the original identity of the Horseman, and why he's so eager to see Crane dead. Crane expresses a distaste for acronyms. And, of course, the Horseman escapes. 'Cause what's Sleepy Hollow without the threat of the Headless Horseman?

Re: 1.08 Necromancer
I'm not entirely sure what Ichabod saw in Abraham to call him his best friend, honestly.
I'll be very interested to see what they do about Katrina. Are we going to get two time travelers in the 21st century? Or are they eventually going to lay her to rest somehow?
I loved that Abbie forced Ichabod to talk, rather than letting him keep his secrets.
I LOVED Jenny and Irving working together. I'm also predicting a whole new branch of shippers.
Re: 1.08 Necromancer

Re: 1.08 Necromancer
I am so loving the continuation of Action!Irving and the fact that he's getting more and more engaged with the team, rather than the usual trope of skeptical captain back at the office who needs to be gotten around.
Last we saw her, Katrina was a Quaker (and a witch, which is already two fairly un-mix-y things). Now she's dressing in a much more period-appropriate, but completely non-Quaker way. My head is spinning trying to keep up. I know not to expect logic from this show, but consistent backstory would be nice.

1.09 Sanctuary
Plus, the show offers support for Irving/Jenny! Kind of.

Re: 1.09 Sanctuary
I love that we finally get some details on Irving (and that everyone assumes he's dating Jenny). I have to feel for the man, though. How do you explain to your ex that you can't see your daughter because you're busy making sure there will still be a world for her to live in?
Also, great reveal on the Crane-Mills connection. It makes sense for a show that's all about destiny.
The most interesting part to me was that Crane apparently had a very good relationship with his father. When he talked about being glad to leave behind his noble upbringing, I assumed there was some acrimony there, but apparently not. But it must have made it that much harder for him to change sides!

1.10 The Golem
We learn the fate of Ichabod's son, finally get a chance to hear from Katrina about what happened to her after Ichabod died, and see
Walter BishopHenry Parrish again. No sign of Jenny this week, but we get some heartbreaking scenes where Irving realizes what kinds of sacrifices he may be called on to make to help Abbie and Ichabod. And we get a bit of discussion about how languages has changed over the centuries!
Re: 1.10 The Golem
Crane broke my heart too. There was no happy ending for his son, and all of Katrina's sacrifice meant nothing there. So sad!
This is it until January!
