If You’re Reading This, Your Favorite Show Is Canceled

Inspired by yesterday's Speak Up Saturday question: Here's a Vulture list of all the shows that, so far, have been canceled in 2023. Which cancellation has hit you the hardest? Or maybe there are potential future cancellations that you're quietly dreading?

Shows I'm mourning: Dead End: Paranormal Park and the planned Six of Crows spinoff. I'm also a little worried over Good Omens because it's Jeff Bezos and I need a third TV season, not a novel or a comic.

I'm struck by the sure number of television series that are currently on. I've not heard of or seen half of these.

Not surprised by the cancellation of Shadow and Bone - it felt completed, and wasn't getting much buzz. Am disappointed by the loss of Six of Crows spinoff - that would have been excellent. But not surprised - Netflix is fickle. Good Omens is probably safe - because it's done very very well - and Amazon is into anything that does well on its platform, and to date that's kind of limited? I think it has maybe four series that have done well? Mrs. Maizel, Good Omens, Daisy and the Six, and maybe Wheel of Time?

Jack Ryan did well on Amazon so I'm surprised they ended that (still ongoing discussions about a spinoff?). Terminal List seemed to do ok and Jack Reacher is about to add season 2. But I don't think others have done so well.

1.) Jack Ryan wasn't cancelled by Amazon. The star of it, is busy, and bored of playing the role, and was only signed on for four seasons. (This is typical of a lot of in-demand actors by the way. Few want to be stuck in a role for more than a few years. A lot of television series end because the lead actors don't want to continue - and some even break their contracts. It limits their ability to play other types of roles, to direct, etc. If you are in-demand, you don't want to be stuck in one role for too long. It's why in-demand actors will only do limited theaterical runs, and often only commit to a few seasons of a television series.)

Why did Jack Ryan end so abruptly? Krasinski only signed on for four seasons

Per the article, Amazon could continue it with a spin-off. They've never really acknowledged that it is ending.

2. Good Omens did very well and has a third season coming.

Here's Good Omens getting a S3

"Neil Gaiman fantasy series Good Omens is looking good to land a Season 3 renewal by Amazon and the BBC, I hear. In anticipation of the order for what will likely be the show’s last chapter, the options on the series’ main cast, led by Michael Sheen and David Tennant, have been picked up, sources said."

The Boys, and Jack Ryan are definitely in there. I'm just not into either of them so keep forgetting they exist. LOL.

The Expanse is an odd one - since it was a Syfy series that Syfy cancelled and Amazon picked up thinking it would take off.
