The opening scene with the battle of Serenity was more powerful than it had a right to be. Transitioning that to the thieving and Wash and Kaylee being adorable and the tension of almost getting caught.... A++++

Most other shows lack strong pilot episodes like this, IMO and that's just the first 5-10 minutes.

Also, I watched the special features on the blu-ray (something I haven't done in....uh.. ever?) It was pre-Serenity (movie) and made me nostalgic.

Right? I was just thinking that, too: most pilots are awful and expositiony. This one is just gorgeous. The actors all seemed to have clicked immediately. Or maybe it's that the characters were so solidly drawn, everyone knew who they were supposed to be.
