Looking forward to watching The Pitt (this week's episode) and The Peaky Blinders flick on Netflix. (Peaky Blinders is my family's fav - my brother, my mother and I all adore it and mother and I are in love with Cillian Murphy.)
Also looking forward to Daredevil Born Again - S2 on March 24 and starting the Forysthe Saga on PBS Passporte.
Watching Grantchester, Virgin River, and a rewatch of Veronica Mars (which I have no memory of - but I'd watched, and rewatched part of just a year ago...which either says something about Veronica Mars or what my work place is doing to my television memory banks. On the bright side? I can rewatch television series?) And completing my Angel S5 rewatch.
I tried the first episode of Scapetta? It gave me a headache. I found it unwatchable. It admittedly has several things that don't work for me in a television show or film or I despise: 1) Misogynistic serial killer with gory killings (I can't watch that any longer - those days are gone), and we get flashes on how he tortured and killed his victims while the forensic detective examines the bodies. 2) Overly theatrical/hammy performances - this by Jamie Lee Curtis, even her wardrobe is over the top - I've seen people do this well, Curtis gave me a headache. 3) Too many flashbacks, we flash back to the past case which this case strongly echoes, we flash back to the murders, we flash back to the family drama now and in the past. Too busy. 4) Family melodrama taken up to the highest volume, and they are all very wealthy - and in the same house. 5) AI Chat Robot Character...seen mainly on the computer screen.
Taken individually? Any of those would might give me a headache - together.... So no. Not my thing.
Damn. Buffy and Angel were good. They don't make shows like that any longer. I miss them. Even Veronica Mars doesn't come close. Also, Hulu cancelled the Buffy reboot because it wasn't "mainstream" enough for Hulu and apparently too woke? And the big exec didn't like Buffy. Boo Hiss. So still disappointed about that. I don't understand why they can't cancel the Bachelor franchise and put the money towards reviving the Buffy franchise? Oh well, at least we might get an animated continuation of Firefly.
It's kind of disappointing? It could have been good - I was expecting something more along the line of Prime Suspect? But this - felt like Prime Suspect meets Hannibal by way of Prodigal Son on speed?
Boy, do I agree with you about the number of flashbacks. I love Jamie Lee Curtis, but not in this at all. I watched two episodes, and to me it got worse than better. I lost two hours I'll never get back. I was so hoping it would be great. It wasn't even close.
I'm sorry to hear about animated Firefly. I thought it would be the regular show. I'm very disappointed.
I don't understand how it got a second season and how folks are watching Scarpetta? I found it headache inducing? Interesting to hear it got worse instead of better, I couldn't get past the first episode.
Firefly can only really continue as animated, unfortunately, since Ron Glass (Shepard) passed away, and the actors have aged - and they want to do the period between the 14th or 13th episode and the film Serenity. Also it's easier and cheaper to do animated. You can hire a handful of actors to play multiple roles. Alan Tyduk (WASH) could probably play WASH and half of the non-main cast roles all by himself.
Yes, your bringing up Tudyk, he continues to be in demand (and Fillion is still leading a show). Doing voiceover is easier to squeeze in alongside other jobs.
Re: the second season for Scarpetta, my guess is that it was contracted for from the start, probably in order to ensure getting big names like Curtis and Kidman.
It may have been - but they are advertising it as based on the number of viewers S! got. (I was following Curtis for a bit on Instagram and FB and she was advertising the heck out of it and S2 pickup. I finally stopped following her - she was driving me nuts.)
I think most of the cast of Firefly is busy - and voice work allows for it to work, and they have to be between S1 and Serenity - for Wash to be in it, since ahem, he can't be in it after Serenity - well, he could...but...
Yeah, it was poorly executed. For once I agree with the NY Times and the Guardian, although they were able to watch more of it than I was? I couldn't get past the first episode. How folks are watching it is beyond me. It even got renewed for a 2nd Season.
