TV Tuesday: Digging Up the Past

Laptop-TV combo with DVDs on top and smartphone on the desk

What's an older show that's fallen off the cultural radar, but that you still love?

Also, just a reminder to anyone who missed Friday's friending meme, it continues to be open to anyone who wants to join in!

I loved Remington Steele. And Hart to Hart was awesome too. Now, I have to find where I can watch them both.

Lots of older US shows turn up on Roku (the streaming service--I know you don't need a Roku device to watch because I don't have one!)

Just do a search for them on your smart tv, if you have one or the internet. That's what I've been doing.

I honestly think Queer As Folk may hold up better than Remington Steel, Hart to Hart or Moonlighting.
But it's a Showtime series - which may be the reason it's not referenced more often. Also it had a bad reboot a while back.

It didn't last long. I was rebooted in 2022 and lasted one season. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queer_as_Folk_(2022_TV_series).

Had low ratings.

I think the fact that the US version was a reimagining of the more popular 1999 British version by RT Davies may have been part of the problem. The original US version was from 2000-2005 on Showtime. (I saw it, I liked the L word better.)

Lol, yes, I watched Hart to Hart when it was on pre-evening tv in the 80s when I was young. (Along with Knight Rider, Simon and Simon, The Fall Guy, and Remington Steele.)

I still love Remington Steele, the others were average, but they still hold a place in my heart. Hart to Hart was more for older people already back then, being about an old married couple, so maybe I'd like it even better now?

I think I saw it on Prime recently, but not for free, you have to pay extra.

Airwolf and Scarecrow and Mrs King. I really love both of these shows.

Scarecrow and Mrs. King was a favorite of mine. I think a lot of people liked it.

Well, I'm re-watching Northern Exposure at the moment. And there's ER. Also, I still love The Wire.

(Buffy doesn't count - because it's still definitely on the radar as is Angel.)

VAMP: "I'll kill you for that!"
BUFFY: "What were you trying to kill me for before that?" is a perfect paradigm of Trump's repeated measures to kill the same program multiple times. And then sometimes he complains about the absence of the program.

Yep, Buffy is definitely still on the radar. Very active fandom, and pop culture keeps referencing it.

Right now, trying Highlander, which doesn't hold up well...and isn't referenced for a reason. LOL!

I don't know? Northern Exposure shows its age. How old is your friend? Because, I don't see anyone under the age of 40 being able to tolerate a lot of things in that show - it's very...how do I put this? Pre-Me#Too? Also some of the bits with the Native Americans may annoy folks.

I didn't notice it in the 90s, but I do now. LOL!

Northern Exposure, The Practice, NYPD Blue, LA Law, Boston Legal, Ally McBeal, sigh...it's scary when Buffy was actually the most progressive of the 1990s and 00 shows in that regard? Actually, it's what motivated the people who made Buffy to make it - those shows.

Being Human! (The UK version.) I think most of my other old faves survive more than it does. And I mean, it for sure has its flaws, it just did certain things brilliantly.

Not that old, but I'm still thinking about The Middleman often.
For shows from my youth: I have a lot of nostalgia for the old Dungeon and Dragons cartoon. Even if it has lots of flaws.
Is Jim Henson's The Storyteller still talked about? It fascinated me as a kid.
