My objection to ads on Youtube is that I mostly use it to watch things like trailers or music videos ... which I consider to be ads to start with.

I am always a bit baffled by people who mention ads on YouTube because I never see ads on YT. I use Firefox as my browser with uBlock Origin ad blocker and it apparently also kills video ads as well as regular static website ads. The only time I've ever seen an ad on YT was when I used the YT app on my smart TV to watch a YT video, and that was the last time I ever used that app.

I do use an adblocker, but sometimes Youtube updates something and I have to wait for the adblocker to catch up!

Oh good. I've never noticed that problem myself, but then again, I mostly only use youtube for my daily yoga or spin class workout videos. I rarely just randomly watch stuff on it.
