Japanese Film Festival Online 2024

From the website: The Japan Foundation holds its third edition, the largest one ever for a month. A variety of 23 films will be delivered during the first two weeks, followed by two TV drama series for the subsequent two weeks. These will be streamed for free with subtitles in up to 16 languages, available in up to 27 countries/regions.

From June 4 11:00pm - July 2 11:00pm (EDT), you can check out the available movies on the website. The two TV shows, which will be shown from June 18 11:00 pm - July 2 11:00 pm (EDT), are Downtown Rocket and RIKUOH.

Downtown Rocket: Kohei Tsukuda, who once failed to develop a rocket engine, takes over a small-town factory and succeeds in creating a component that forms the basis of a rocket engine. It turns out that the technology is crucial to make rockets fly. When a large company offers him a deal, Kohei must decide whether to sell the company's patent or follow his dream.

RIKUOH: Koichi Miyazawa runs a small, but longstanding company which makes tabi (traditional Japanese socks). Due to a decrease of demand for tabi, the company is struggling to keep afloat. For the company's surival, Koichi Miyazawa begins to develop running shoes in collaboration with an injured long-distance runner while using his team's accumulated knowledge for making tabi.

I'm so excited for this!!! I've seen both dramas and loved them both, but I'll be using this festival as an excuse to rewatch rather than jumping onto my extremely long To Watch list as well as to catch as many of the movies they're screening as I can.

Thanks for sharing!

My absolute favorite show I watched last year, that I will rec above and beyond, is The Full-Time Wife Escapist.

I know, the title is horrible, but it's such a wonderful show. Quirky and romantic, and feminist and kind. I wrote a rec post for it here:
