TV Bulletin Board

Wow, over 100 comments on our last post! TV chatter ranging all over the board - I lost count of the number of shows people mentioned, but it was a lot! I've been inspired to try and check out some new things.

Based on some of the feedback in the last post, I'm going to try to compile a somewhat regular round-up of TV things found on DW as well as include some general links that members might find useful or interesting.

Suggestions and feedback welcome.
Do you know of an active DW television-related comm or have something else for the next bulletin?
Please share it here

What are our members talking about?
As I'm typing this, there were 3 posts on the first page talking about TV and likely many more!

I just posted some thoughts about Agents of SHIELD (spoilers to current episode) and Powerless (not spoilery) here: https://yourlibrarian.dreamwidth.org/452270.html

In the future should I just make the post to the community or should it just be linked to? (I am fine with either)

I use http://www.myepisodes.com/frontpage/ I switched from episodecalendar because I think that one only let me put a certain amount of shows, this one doesn't limit me. Also, it tells me how much of my life I've wasted on each show. Unfortunately, it doesn't track rewatched episodes. Because I think Buffy would be on the top.

For those of you who are interested what this screen looks like here. And wow, I am missing a lot of the normal procedurals...

Clearly the answer is to become a programming guru and create your own site!

I'm afraid I haven't come across an active TV discussion group here, at least not for anything I'm active in. But I think posting about active communities, maybe on a monthly basis, would be a great feature!

Obviously I think it's great to have a members corner signal boost as well :)

I don't actually use any sites to keep up to date with TV -- the DVR and Netflix queue do it for me and I stumble across people's reviews or pro reviews regularly. I have way more stuff recommended to me than I will get to in the next decade!

I don't actually read TV show recaps these days but there are certainly a lot of places still doing it. Might be a good idea to ask about those in a future post, see what are people's favorites and why (whether they're done within fandom or on a media site).

posting a primer for their favorite shows

I love that idea. I love seeing those on my flist. And it would be nice to have a comm to post to when you're first getting into a show, when you want to (a) find other people who already love that thing, and (b) drag other new people in with you.

Nothing helpful to add but I LOVE the idea of a roundup post like this.

And I think unlocked meta entries by members could be cool--it could get out of hand if there's a lot of people posting stuff, but maybe worth a try?

I don't know if this qualifies but I'm updating and reposting my mini-reviews and fic recs from [tumblr.com profile] 201daysofxfiles to [community profile] xfilesficrecs.

Oh, I was not aware of these sites! I am SO in an XF nostalgia mood the last few days.

How it kills me that I sold my XF DVD sets. Sigh. The only explanation:

I WAS DRUGGED!

I use pogdesign to keep track of shows, it's the best of all ones I've tried. It tracks a lot of US shows obviously, but also many british and australian ones. And if for some reason it's not tracking a show I want, it only takes about three people to ask for something and they add it in. It doesn't limit how many shows you can add, and has a profile page with all sorts of statistics if you want them. It also has a feature where it adds any new pilot episodes to your calendar automatically, so you don't miss things starting, which I love.

And hurray for a member's corner, and a thank you for pulling this whole post together:)
