There are very few tenets of my simple faith, and one of them is "Don't Watch Awards Shows." I have a very low tolerance for watching person after person gush "We were just like a family!" (even people who I *don't* suspect of lying). I'm sort of interested in the gowns, but the pics turns up online a minute later.

I'm actually a pretty big awards show buff. I'm usually invested in a few shows or films and like to see how the host and show will do overall. Something unexpected usually happens. And it is fun to see everyone dressed up. :)

There were some winners and some losers on my Emmy ballot: I was so happy that Breaking Bad took home some awards for its last season, and I love Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Veep. There were some funny moments and some wtf moments (Sofia Vergara).

You're the first person to have mentioned they also watch it! Yes, Veep definitely offers the most smart laughs per minute. :)

Did you watch the Emmy Awards? Do you watch Awards shows in general? Why or why not?

I used to watch almost all the awards shows. I marked the year by them! But during the years of President Bush and especially after the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan began, celebrities became so insulting and nasty to their fans (or anyone) who didn't agree with them on everything, that I got sick of constantly being berated and insulted by them. By the the time Obama came along, it seems all of Hollywood was campaigning for that man and anyone who didn't agree was also publicly insulted.

It sickened me, and I don't think it's gotten any better as the years have gone on.

I used to enjoy these things because I love TV, movies and music. I don't need to be relentlessly preached at about politics during these events.

I did watched awards shows back in the day but don't do so much anymore. My cynical side kinda eyerolls most award shows because they feel like a contest of 'who runs the best marketing campaign?'. It doesn't help that, in most cases, most of the voters tend to go with the obvious, i.e. safe, vote time and time again. Which explains why some shows and actors keep winning the same awards.

It could also be that I'm not interested because a lot of the TV shows I enjoy (Miss Fisher's Murder Myseries, Revenge, The Divide, Arrow, Sleepy Hollow, etc) rarely (if ever) get nominated.
