Re: 4.07 Ua Nalohia (In Deep)
4X6
I enjoyed seeing our boys together again! Having a normal case (tho' zombie-ish) was good. Glad to be light on the Adam/Kono storyline, which I find to be so ridiculous and annoying.
4X7
Inserting a baby storyline (especially out of nowhere) is always a gimmick. But the baby was cute and I guess it worked out okay. It's always fun to see guys with babies. Loved Danny's storytelling. Again, it was good to more Danny & Steve interaction and limited time given to the Adam/Kono plot.
I'm really not getting the Catherine hate I see in the fandom. That's odd for me, since I generally don't like most female characters. Is it a bit unbelievable that she could 1) fight like that and 2) get a job with Five-0 just like that? Well, sure. But not any more unbelievable than anything else on the show. I remember the actress from a little watched show called 'The Forgotten', which I enjoyed. The character seems intelligent and not a whiny/clingy female, and so far the romance (such as it is) hasn't been too intrusive. I'll give it a chance.
Re: 4.07 Ua Nalohia (In Deep)
Basically, the way she was written leaves a lot to be desired.
Re: 4.07 Ua Nalohia (In Deep)
The show itself seems quite uneven in a number of ways, so there is that. I'm just hoping the ratings keep strong enough so it's not cancelled. Whatever its flaws (and I think there are valid complaints to be had) I do still enjoy it!
4.08 Akanahe (Reluctant Partners)
4x07 recap:
When we last saw Five-0:
* Catherine has a fight scene and get the guy who knows where the guy who has Adam is
* Mary shows up and OMG! she has a baby named Joan.
* Steve, Danny, Chin (and Max) are on baby sitting duty when Mary gets sick
* There was a case. Yeah, I think so. Something about a dead undercover ATF agent
* Grover was a punk, but he didn't take any of Steve's crap
* Catherine interrogating Sato's money man, finally gets the info she needs
* Steve asks Catherine to join Five-0. She needs a job, they're down a person. win-win
4x08 summary
"Akanahe" – McGarrett and Grover must work together to protect national security after they are tasked by the Governor to serve a warrant to a young computer hacker. Nick Jonas guest stars as the young computer hacker.
(*Akanahe is Hawaiian for “Reluctant Partners”)

Re: 4.08 Akanahe (Reluctant Partners)
But where's Danny?!
Also, Nick Jonas? Seriously?
Though he played an annoying punk very well!
Plane In Peril stories terrify me. This one kept me on the edge of my seat. Not sure how plausible that sort of scenario is, but it's a frightening thought if it is at all.
But... where did he go? And how? I wished this had been resolved. That means I'll have to see that Jonas kid again. He did play an insufferable BRAT very well!
Yeah, not sure where this show is going these days. I'm not sure they do either. But it's still fun.
Re: 4.08 Akanahe (Reluctant Partners)
Re: 4.08 Akanahe (Reluctant Partners)
Well, like I said, I think it went well.
4.09 Ha’uoli La Ho’omaika’i (Happy Thanksgiving).
4x08 recap:
When we last saw Five-0:
* Steve, Chin and Catherine go to Japan and Kono capture Sato. They interrogate him and find out that Sato helped Adam fake his death to get the Yakuza off his back
* Kono tells Chin she's not leaving without Adam
* The team arrived back in Hawaii and Steve's on the phone with Danny who is in Jersey for his father's 60th birthday
* There's a scene with Grover and his daughter who is getting a bit risque on the webcam with a boy
* Steve is summoned to the Governor's Residence...and so is Grover
* Denning tells Steve and Grover they need to work together to bring in some guy (Nick Jonas) who has outstanding parking tickets
* Steve and Grover bicker...a lot.
* There's a shootout at the house of the guy they're supposed to bring in and he's kidnapped
* Steve and Grover on horseback
* The plot ends up being that the JoBro guy is the bad guy. He's a computer hacker and has taken control of a flight and if he isn't allowed to get on another flight, he's going to send the plane crashing into the ocean
* Catherine gets in touch with a contact in Naval Intelligence and gets this program that hasn't been fully tested, but might work in jamming the hacker's signal to the plane so the pilots can have control of the plane
* Steve and Grover discuss their options and in the end, let the hacker go.
* Catherine pulls through and the plane was able to safely land in Hawaii
* Steve and Grover stop the plane that the hacker was on, but he was no longer on the flight – he got away!
* Steve goes to the Governor’s Residence to take full responsibility for the hacker getting away, and the Governor says that Grover said the exact same thing.
* The episode ends with Steve going to the ATM and a message comes up saying “I should have paid my tickets” and there's a close up of Steve's face and the ATM camera and Steve replies “I'm going to find you” and the reply he got back was “good luck”
I know I left out a lot of stuff, but this is the basic idea of the episode.

Danny trying to get his parents back together was so sweet. (Although... what the heck has Melanie Griffith done to her face?!)
And wow, I was so glad to see the "girls are always victims" thing turned on its head. Girls can be more devious and evil than guys can. So glad to see it for a change.

Re: 4.20 Pe'epe'e Kanaka (Those Among Us)
Danny: Love you too.
Hahaha! You know the slashers are having a ball with that one. (Even thought they just finished talking about their GIRLFRIENDS.)
Wow, a story on home grown ISLAMIC terrorists?! They even said the word jihad!
Let's see how they spin the ending. Please, please don't let that happen!
Oh, here we go. Traitor/jihadi wannabe starts quoting the Quran and of course Steve says it's "cherry picked" phrases fed to her.
And, of course, useless girl had a hard life. Boo hoo.
But all in all, it was pretty good! No moral equivalence, no "sucker punch" where it ends up being the Americans or Christians or conservatives in particular who were the real bad guys, respect for our military boys, and again, actual mention of Islam, jihad and even Allah!
Shocking!

Re: 4.21 Makani 'Olu a Holo Malie (Fair Winds and Following Seas).
First off, maybe I've watched too many
yearsdecades of TV, but I am no longer able to buy this nonsense where cops or military people or doctors go rogue, as it were, and do things that would never in a million years be REMOTELY possible in real life.I know it's only TV. I know it's all pretend. I know we must turn off our brains to some extent. But at some point you just have to say, "Oh, come on!" There's no way either Catherine or Steve would have been able to even get to Afghanistan on their own the way they did! You just cannot call in favors of the military like that. You just cannot hop on a plane and go chase people down in a foreign, hostile country where we are at war. And then to have that same military go and rescue Steve? Again, it would NEVER happen!
Then there was the usual Hollywood silliness that says that you can make friends with an entirely hostile culture just by something as simple as playing soccer. Come on, already!
Also, I'm not much into the fandom, but I could not avoid all the Catherine-hate that seemed to be present, along with hatred for the actress as well. I have no idea why they hated the actress. And I don't want to know. As to the character, I liked her. And that's rare for me with female characters in general. I hope she survives and returns at some point.
All in all, a tense episode, but really beyond my ability to find remotely realistic.
Re: 4.21 Makani 'Olu a Holo Malie (Fair Winds and Following Seas).
For right now, the actress is no longer on the show, but that doesn't mean at some point in the future, she can't return as a guest.
As you don't want to know why a lot of fans don't like the actress, I won't speak to that since you don't want to know, but do know why.
Re: 4.21 Makani 'Olu a Holo Malie (Fair Winds and Following Seas).
I try to avoid real life stuff from all my shows these days. Too much ugliness goes on behind the scenes. For myself personally, it just takes away my enjoyment.
