Jackie does have an abrasive personality. There's her personal drama stuff (husband and two daughters), work drama, and the friendships/work relationships she has with other people as well as the addiction aspect.
It is a both a bit comedy and a bit drama. It's only a half hour long...which is kind of odd considering that a lot of the time it seems more on the end of drama and there really aren't a lot of half hour drama shows that I can think of.
What part of it seeming like House turned you off from the premise?

It was the drug-addicted, abrasive personality medical professional concept that reminded me of House. But it does sound quite different in execution.
