Deadwood is totally on my list already because it was one of my dad's favorite shows and everything he's recommended to me I've liked.

Boardwalk Empire I'm planning to add to my massive list of shows. I've seen an episode here and there when I've been visiting my parents and what I've seen has caught my interest.

Even people I'm in karate with watch Downton Abbey, so I will check it out at some point.

I don't think I've heard of Vikings.

Your dad has good taste. :D

Vikings is the History Channel's first tv show! I think they did well for their first try. It's really enjoyable even if it has faced some criticism regarding historical accuracy (which I think is sort of not fair, because no historical drama I have ever watched is 100% faithful to history, some liberties must be taken for the sake of entertainment).

The History channel part is probably why I haven't heard of it before. And probably why it got the criticism about accuracy.

My dad does good taste, but most of what he recommends to me is pay cable, which can get awkward if we're watching in the same room at the same time and boobs appear.
