Episode 5.01: A Murder of Crowes
-This episode opens up the fifth season by taking both Raylan and Boyd out of Kentucky for a bit (but not together).
-We're also introduced to a new set of outlaws with a connection to a very familiar character.
Did anyone watch?
What did you think about the episode?
Re: Episode 5.01: A Murder of Crowes
There are a lot of spoilers for this episode in that post, so be warned.
I really loved having Dewey Crowe back. His scenes were so funny. I can't believe he bought Audrey's. I'm interested in seeing how everything develops when those other members of the Crowe clan show up in Harlan.
I felt the episode was a little slow. It seemed very much a set up episode, which makes sense since it is setting things up for some new outlaws for Raylan to tangle with.
I'm not sure how I feel about the other Crowes yet. The ones still living anyways. For me it's going to be hard for any family to measure up to the Bennett clan.
I was sad about Raylan's lack of interest in his daughter and how he didn't even visit when he was in Florida.
I think this is going to be a really dark season for Boyd, which should be interesting. I don't think he does well at all without Ava.
Episode 5.02: The Kids Aren't All Right
I haven't gotten the chance to watch this week's episode yet.
I'll be watching it tonight and writing something up after that.
Did anyone else watch?
What did you think?
Feel free to jump in anytime!
Re: Episode 5.02: The Kids Aren't All Right
Things aren't looking too good for Boyd right now, are they? If he ends up in jail who's going to help Ava? I miss Ava being a bigger part of the show and Boyd seems kind of lost without her.
Anyone else creeped out by the poprocks bj thing? Is that a thing? I had to check the internet and I guess it is.
Anyone worried about Art looking deeper into Nicky Augustine's death and Sammy Tonin's involvement in it because of Sammy's call to Raylan shortly before his death?
I wrote up a long reaction post over here. Spoilers abound, so be warned.
Re: Episode 5.02: The Kids Aren't All Right
Despite the violence and fact that everything always seems to go to shit for everyone, the characters and how they're portrayed in this show are some of the best in television.
I'm actually going to feel sorry for Dewey at some point, aren't I? (LOL)

Episode 5x03: Good Intentions
I have yet to watch this episode. Has anyone else seen it yet?
What did you think?
I'll jump back in sometime tomorrow after I see it!
Re: Episode 5x03: Good Intentions
Raylan's relationship choices seem to be getting more and more ill-advised. Does he not realize this or does he just not care? I'm really thinking Allison is a bad idea for him.
I'm sad but not surprised that things seem rocky for Ava and Boyd. I miss Ava, I hate only getting these tiny glimpses of her in prison.
That Monroe guy (I didn't realize he was being played by Xander Berkeley at first either only that he looked familiar) is super creepy. Damn.
I liked Raylan's interaction with Duffy, that was fun. I also loved Boyd's little motivation speech that he gave to poor Dewey.
The scene with Mara and Boyd and her checking out his tattoos...what the hell? How exactly is this getting Ava out of prison and why hasn't Boyd told Ava that Paxton isn't actually dead? She seems to still think he is.
But the end bit where we find out who's been snatching Boyd's shipments? That was awesome! I didn't expect it to be Johnny at all. I missed Johnny, this looks like he'll be back soon :)
Oh, I also loved how Art sent Rachel along to babysit Raylan at the house. That was cute. And sadly necessary.
Re: Episode 5x03: Good Intentions
I'm convinced they keep Duffy alive just because they love that actor. And I do, too, he's a great foil.
OH and yes, the scene with the tattoos! GoodNESS.
I was wondering what had happened to Johnny! Wow, he's such a punk.
Episode 5x04: Over the Mountain
What did everyone think?
I'll be watching this tomorrow and will come back and comment then :)
Re: Episode 5x04: Over the Mountain
I liked seeing Johnny too. He's not going to play nice with Boyd at all is he? What is with all the Crowder men wanting Ava? Ava's awesome but still. I'm worried that Boyd isn't going to be able to get her out of jail. I also didn't like that he didn't even say goodbye to her after the meeting with Johnny.
I kind of felt bad for Messer. Dewey couldn't even give him a quick death.
And Art really needs to stop looking into that stuff with Raylan and Nicky Augustine, it isn't going to lead anywhere good. He needs to let it go. He doesn't want to really know.
My longer reaction post(with spoilers) is here...
Re: Episode 5x04: Over the Mountain
I was really surprised that Messer ate it. Even more surprised that he was a CI. Oh Dewey Dewey Dewey.
Re: Episode 5x04: Over the Mountain
Did you notice that Boyd and Tim were playing scrabble when Raylan got back? I didn't even notice until I read an interview with Jacob Pitts (Tim) and had to go back and watch the scene over again.
Re: Episode 5x04: Over the Mountain
Re: Episode 5x04: Over the Mountain
Episode 5x05: Shot All To Hell
This is the thread for discussing episode 5x05 "Shot All To Hell"
Isn't that an ominous sounding title?
I'll chime in tomorrow after I get a chance to watch.
Re: Episode 5x05: Shot All To Hell
Boyd did it, he fixed it. He was awesome and I knew when him and Ava were planning the next day, that it didn't matter. That horrible guard ruined it all. And now Ava won't be under protection and I have no idea what sort of time she could end up doing for this and I don't know if Boyd can help her with this at all. I'm so sad for them.
Johnny!!! I was so proud of him being smart and planning ahead (even though it was against Boyd who I love) But seriously he surprised me. I guess he really has learned for experience.
Alan Tudyk and Danny Strong in the same episode! Art being awesome! So many awesome things in this episode. And so many sad things.
Is Raylan really going to confess to Art? Is he crazy?
Dewey having an existential crisis, all the other Crowes being so horrible. They really need to go. Boyd needs to do something about them.
I loved how they ended up wrapping up the Theo Tonin thing with this episode too. That was cool. And got rid of Mooney the horrible Sheriff.
long reaction post is here...
Episode 5x06: Kill The Messenger
This is the thread for episode 5x06 "Kill The Messenger"
Comment away....
Re: Episode 5x06: Kill The Messenger
Poor Ava. This really sucks for her and Boyd has her hands full.
Just when I was getting tired of the Crowes they team up with Boyd and become less boring.
They're still not Bennetts but I'm not sure if any family can top Mags Bennett and her boys, really.
Now that the Crowes actually have someone smart to follow they may make it further into the season.
It's really sad that Boyd not being a racist dickhead anymore is biting him in the ass.
Boyd's man Carl and Danny Crowe...and the whole "safe word" thing? OMG!!! That was awesome.
Raylan was a dick to Rachel but he apologized, I was glad about that.
And Art punching Raylan! So, Raylan must have told him the truth. No idea what Art is going to do in the long run with this information.
And now Boyd wants the Crowe family's help in killing Johnny. :(
I mean I want Boyd to live but I don't want Johnny to die either.
Oh and no new episode next week it seems :(
Episode 5x07: Raw Deal
What did you think of the episode?
I'll be back tomorrow with my thoughts after I watch it :)
Re: Episode 5x07: Raw Deal
There were some really funny bits especially with the computer guy but in general it was bad time for everyone. Not horribly bad but the bad that happens to set up the shitstorm afterwards.
Well except for Johnny. Johnny's day was horribly bad. And those guys that Danny Crowe shot. I don't think they pulled at all, did they? What the hell is wrong with him? Even Daryl was looking at him like there was something seriously wrong with his brother.
Is Johnny really dead? Dammit. He's survived a gunshot before but I don't think it's gonna happen out here in the desert. Oh Johnny, I'm going to miss you so much :( You shouldn't have screwed over Boyd though.
And Ava? That wasn't smart at all. I understand why she did it but it wasn't a good move.
Raylan wants a transfer and he's going to take a vacation first and actually see his kid? I'll believe it when I see it.
Tim was extra snarky, wasn't he? I loved getting Tim and Rachel in the same episode!
Oh and the whole thing with the computer guy telling Raylan that no, the technology for replying to posts was decades away. That was awesome. And then Raylan stupidly replying to the blog post.
Allison's bad shit was a two week suspension, given what's going on with the rest of the characters, I'd say she got off light. So far at least.
RIP Johnny Crowder.
Episode 5x08: Whistle Past the Graveyard
Any thoughts?
I'll check in after I get a chance to catch it tomorrow :)
Re: Episode 5x08: Whistle Past the Graveyard
Looks like both Boyd and Ava may make it out okay as look as Boyd outsmarts the Crowes and makes it back with the drugs as his.
I like how Jimmy seems to speak at least some Spanish.
I liked the twist that Kendal is Wendy's son not brother. So sad. He knew too, because he seem to be the only not stupid member of the Crowes. Well, Wendy's not really stupid. Just limited in what she allows her life to be I guess. And "Uncle Jack" wasn't Kendal's uncle at all but his dad. The actor they picked to play that guy made me thing he might be Kendal's dad before the reveal happened as well as the way he and Wendy spoke to each other...so that was a good choice.
Allison's reaction to Raylan not wanting to help Kendal because he didn't care unless something was in it for him was perfect and I think one of the reason he agreed to help. That and for information he didn't end up getting. She didn't even tell him Boyd was involved, which she was privy to I believe.
Raylan did get that guy from the previous episode to teach him how to win radio shows. Damn. I like that he gave that money to kendal. For a moment he saw a bit of himself in the kid. It was sweet but not enough to make Allison stick around, and I don't really blame her.
Good episode. Less deadly than I feared. Still love this show.
Re: Episode 5x08: Whistle Past the Graveyard
and oh boy, I can't believe they made me WANT for Boyd to make it back with the drugs. If Ava doesn't get a supply in, she's toast. CLEVER SHOW
Yeah, it's interesting that Raylan took ill gotten gains from the guy with the computer skills. I'm surprised, and I really hope this isn't the first indication of a downward spiral. I wonder what will happen now, with the social worker out of the picture. Does he have any reason to stop edging over to the dark side?
Re: Episode 5x08: Whistle Past the Graveyard
I think his downward spiral kind of inevitable at this point really, and maybe it always was. That coming back to Harlan was the beginning of the end.
Re: Episode 5x08: Whistle Past the Graveyard
Re: Episode 5x08: Whistle Past the Graveyard
It would be nice if someone on this show did, but I suspect it may not be that kind of show.
Episode 5x09: Wrong Roads
Here's the thread for 5x09.
Thoughts? Feelings? Etc...
Re: Episode 5x09: Wrong Roads
Raylan really doesn't know how to take a vacation does he?
Things don't seem to be going well for Ava and Boyd at all. Ava is really screwed at this point I think. Unless her or Boyd can pull off some sort of miracle. She didn't actually do the thing that landed her in her current prison but if she starts moving drugs and kills another prisoner on top of that she's completely screwed. She needs to have Boyd kill her out on the outside or something, yet she'd be out of someone to bring the drugs in then. :(
Hot Rod is dead, that was kind of sad too. Damn. And Dewey is totally freaking out.
I really loved the "a united nations of assholes" bit. That was funny. Miller and Raylan were kind of fun together.
Episode 5x10: Weight
Here's the thread for 5x10
Thoughts? Feelings? Etc...
Re: Episode 5x10: Weight
I feel bad for that dog :( Poor doggie. I almost felt bad for the idiot owner too. Almost. But damn the way Danny bought it, falling into that hole and onto his own knife? Wow. That's kind of how I expect Dewey to end up but I think Dewey is actually smarter than Danny. He's still alive, at least for now anyways. Of course even if Danny hadn't fell into the hole he'd still be dead. Raylan's too quick of a draw and had his gone out by the time the idiot fell into the hole.
I really wish Kendal had told Allison about how Danny had killed that guy so she wouldn't have sent him back with his horrible family. I can't believe how Daryl was beating on his sister. I didn't know I could have hated him any more, but I do.
And now I'll talk about how Ava broke my heart. Damn. She even tried to get out of killing that woman and it didn't work and she had to kill or be killed. And how is she supposed to get the drugs now? She broke up with Boyd, and that broke my heart. What the hell? To protect him? Bullshit. And then he let that nasty guard go. Which was probably for the best but damn.
Everything is going to go very badly for everyone, isn't it?
I'm so sad about Ava and Boyd. I'm sad that Johnny is dead, Dewey is on the run, Art is still mad at Raylan, everyone seems to be in danger. And only what, three episodes left of the season? And next season is the end!
Episode 5x11: The Toll
What did everyone think of the episode?
Re: Episode 5x11: The Toll
I knew something bad was going to happen to Art when he decided to go watch Allison on his own.
Whatever happened to wearing a vest, dammit? I really hope Art doesn't die.
So Daryl Crowe is an even bigger ass than I thought. Putting Kendal up to confessing to shooting Art.
I was wondering what was up with up with Boyd taking up smoking. That scene where he blew up Picker was awesome!
I loved how Rachel is the interim Chief, and how surprised she was. Possibly horrified. Like she wants to be in charge of trying to Raylan.
So, is the ice cream for Ava a thank you? Or a eat up and enjoy your last meal thing? Hopefully a thank you and hopefully Boyd will come through with the drugs for her (odd to wish for something like that, but still...).
I hope Raylan calls Boyd and tells him where Daryl Crowe is.
Episode 5x12: Starvation
Thoughts, feelings, etc...
Re: Episode 5x12: Starvation
I feel bad for her that Boyd didn't even try asking for her release but then again she did break up with him. After all he did for her too. He killed for her. And then she was about to make a deal with Raylan to get back with Boyd so she could convince him to help Raylan. That is kind of crappy, she was willing to get back with him so she could use him? Of course then she found out that he was already working with Raylan and hadn't asked for her release at all. Harsh.
Loved that Boyd brought up Nicky Augustine's death but also loved that Tim and Rachel backed Raylan up. Of course now they probably know why Art's been so pissed at him.
Oh man...Dewey Crowe...looks like he's going to prison.
Raylan's plan to get Daryl is having them charge Kendal as an adult? Harsh, and something that is going to be really bad if it doesn't work. Maybe Art will wake up and be able to actually tell them who shot him.
Things don't look so good for Boyd. Or for Ava, never mind them as a couple.
Episode: 5x13: "Restitution"
Season Finale time!
What did you think?
Re: Episode: 5x13: "Restitution"
On the plus side, Rachel and Tim got a lot more screen time than usual.
I'm glad Tim was just banged up with the car accident and not seriously hurt.
I like how Boyd got out of his predicament by using the Marshals. I'm amazed that all these criminals never seem to think that the marshals are going to shoot them, until it's too late.
Daryl did in fact shoot Art, and Wendy got him to confess and then shot him in the balls while Raylan just watched, and then she had to shoot him again. That was kind of awesome. And Raylan leaning over him and telling him how he said he was going to wish he had killed him...wow!
I like how Raylan vouched for Wendy with the shooting being self-defense.
So, Raylan was all set to go off to Florida and be with his family and then they dangled the carrot of finally catching Boyd in front of him. Wow. Rico act too.
I knew as soon as Ava was being released that she had made a deal. I don't blame her mind you, but damn.
I think the last season is going to be coming around full circle to the beginning. Looks like Boyd's going back to bank robbing and Raylan will be after him yet again.
I also think it may end the way it was originally supposed to end with the pilot in the spirit of coming full circle and honoring Elmore Leonard's original story.
Good season. It had some rough spots in my opinion and I didn't find the Crowe's to be that interesting as the the seasons 'big bad' but it was good.
I'll be sad when the show comes to a close but I'm interested in seeing how they end it.
