Star Trek: Starfleet Academy to end after season 2

Starfleet Academy got renewed for a 2nd season before the first season had even aired, but it's future beyond that was up in the air. However, it was announced this week that season 2 will be the last season.

I stumbled across this news yesterday while reading something else. This is such a bummer! I've yet to finish the season but I had already decided this would be one of my top 10 shows this year. I can only assume the ratings haven't been good, which to me just means it hasn't found its audience yet.

I wrote a bit about the show and how much I enjoyed its new take on the Trek verse. It seems to me the fandom needs to mobilize before the appearance of S2 if it wants more.

yeah I'm really disappointed about this, Academy has become one of my fav Treks. Its not without its issues, but its been pretty good imo

Its a shame there has been a vocal group of people actively speaking out against the show as being "woke", but those people must never have watched Star Trek before imo

I'm so sad about it. It's been so good! But also unsurprised, given Paramount and everything.

I was so disappointed in this news 😞 To me, it really makes no sense to cancel it so soon after the end of season one. But Paramount has been making stupid decisions about Star Trek for years now (for example: dropping Prodigy for a tax write-off while the crew was finishing up post-production on season two. Actually I'm sort of worried that might happen to Starfleet Academy season two as well...)

I read elsewhere (maybe on Trek Movie or Trekcore?) that they ended season two on a cliffhanger, presumably because they were optimistic about the odds for season three at the time. So that just makes me doubly annoyed at the cancelation.

But, regardless, I really enjoyed season one a lot, and nothing can change that! I will at least have fun writing some fanfic for it later 😊

Yes, Prodigy wasn't my thing but it seems so disrespectful to the work everyone did on it. I certainly hope there will be no such development for Academy /o\

I can't see how they could be optimistic about S3 unless they were getting good feedback internally. Surely it hasn't been produced yet though, has it? Because I'd think they could change the ending otherwise.

From what I read, they just finished up filming season two a few weeks ago and post-production is only just beginning. So I would assume they can go back and film a different ending. I hope they do at least 🤞 I don't think season two is airing until next year, so they have time.
