I finished watching the new (3rd) series of the Aussie drama The Newsreader starring Anna Torv of Fringe fame and really enjoyed it. This show deserves to be better known and more popular. If you find it streaming somewhere, give it a go. There were also this week's eps of Alien: Earth, and Outlander: Blood of my Blood. I watched the first episode of an older Aussie miniseries called The Clearing, which seems nicely creepy -- it's about a cult and based on a true story. High Potential season 2 started, and I watched the first episode. I also finally got around to starting Dexter: Resurrection. Oh, and I'd forgotten to mention previously that I've been watching the latest series of The Great British Bake Off, which started 3 weeks ago.
As for looking forward to... well, there are a fair few shows starting this week that I've got my eye on. I likely won't have the time to start many (or any) of them, however.* We'll see. In any case, they are: The Lowdown (FX), which starts on the 23rd; The Hack (ITV) which starts on the 24th; Wayward (Netflix) which drops on the 25th, as does the new season of Slow Horses (Apple); and lastly, The Savant starts on the 26th, also on Apple. So yeah, lots of tantalizing new shows, and so little time...
*A lot will depend on what happens with the Blue Jays (baseball)...
Was excited to see that Hulu has made Ken Jennings' Jeopardy runs available for viewing. I was never a watcher so haven't seen them, and it fills the exercise quiz show viewing I was missing.
Also saw the first episode of Dancing With the Stars' new season. 20 years now, wow. So far Robert Irwin's debut seems really promising, though apparently it's the appearances by the Mormon Housewives that's driving a lot of attention.
Saw all of Eyes of Wakanda. It's 4 short episodes so didn't take long. Worth watching, I think. I especially liked Ep 2 set during the Trojan War.
Finished S3 of Sister Boniface, and will wrap up S27 of Silent Witness this coming week. Finished A Spy Among Friends and thought it was a really good watch, though as I wrote here it takes a POV that seems geared towards an engaging story rather than the truth.
Also saw a documentary on the BeeGees "How Do You Mend a Broken Heart" and watched the Emmys, which I also wrote about at the link, as well as everything up to S27 of Silent Witness. Don't remember if I mentioned that I finished the Billy Joel documentary which was also worth seeing.
Watched a little more of Julia S2. Really liking it, and surprised it hasn't gotten more attention. It's both fun and heartwarming.
Haven't seen the most recent episodes of Daily Show or Colbert as my partner's away and we watch together. Looking forward to that given the continuing war on late night shows.
I'm very excited about the upcoming final episode of Let's Go Karaoke!
The show's a dryly funny anime about a teenage boy who leads his school choir and who's worried about his changing voice failing him before the big end-of-year performance. That concern becomes just one of many when he's unexpectedly approached by a charming local gangster who wants him to become his singing coach for a karaoke contest. An unlikely friendship/crush ensues. I'm a big fan of the manga and its sequel, and I'm particularly excited for this final episode because it looks like it will cover something we haven't seen in print yet.
Coldwater Season 1 (UK) - which had Andrew Lincoln in it, with Eve Myles, and Indra Varma, both of whom I like. Basic premise is John (andrew lincoln) moves to a scottish town with his family and he forms a friendship with his next door neighbour. But all is not what it seems with him and his family and things spiral out of control.
Boat Story (UK) - a british crime drama, about two strangers who find a stash of cocaine on a shipwrecked boat, agree to sell and split the profit, and then find themselves pursued by the drug owners, the cops, a hitman etc. It was darkly humorous.
Otherwise it was just the odd weekly thing or two.
For this next week I am super hype because Season 2 of Mystery Road: Origins (Australia) dropped yesterday so I'm watching that tomorrow. Also excited for new eps of SVU and Slow Horses, and new series Wayward and The Savant.
Season 8 of Hudson & Rex also starts this week apparently, which I have mixed feelings about because it will be a different detective - Charlie's brother(?) Mark. And apparently John Reardon (Hudson) was recovered from his cancer treatment and ready to return for S8 but the show chose not to renew his contract. So I dunno on this one. Will see I guess.
The Hudson & Rex case reminds me of the discussion here at tv_talk earlier this week regarding the immediacy of long seasons and having to do real-life workarounds.
Ha. Ha. Ha. Work took everything out of me *again*, and I watched... almost 20 episodes of Love Like The Galaxy, which whyyyyyy. I know why, I am lured by the romance and seeing Wu Lei smile, and I am getting that. The problem is having to sit through people being greedy, facetious, plotting, vengeful, simpering, haughty, murderous, and just plain mean to each other for the other 95% of the time. It's all the worst of the human condition, and the show highlights it for people to delight in. It's like scripted reality tv in period dress, with some good people thrown in, and you can be sure that the Emperor will always sort out your troubles in the end. I'm not proud of it but I will watch the remaining 16 episodes as well, I'm sure.
In other, much better, news, I watched the penultimate HPI episode, and it's sooooo good omg. The last two were okay, but I've been out of my HPI obsession for a while now, and they didn't really grip me. This ep would have the potential to draw me back if I didn't know the show is over soon.
I also watched a few more eps of Phineas and Ferb season 5, and loving it. It has lost none of its appeal.
I'll be on vacation next week, lets hope that with less exhaustion, I will have more time to watch *good* things again.
I watched the first two episodes of Only Murders in the Building's new season yesterday. I liked the episode focusing on Lester, although I had to remind myself 32 years ago = 1993 and not the 70s...I feel like something doesn't add up. He was far too young in the flashbacks.
S2 of Gen V has started and I have not gotten around to it yet, because I didn't feel like catching up on three episodes. Not the first time this happened.
It feels like we haven't been watching much, partly because my Apple TV+ app is glitching annoyingly and won't let us continue with Prehistoric Planet or Chief of War. ;-p
So, lots of Dark Winds (Netflix psychological thriller/cop show set on a Navajo reservation; really good), and a bit of Bluey (continues to be my comfort TV).
Finished Aema (Kdrama set in the tawdry film industry of the early 1980s, under authoritarianism), and it was excellent. Dark in places, but great.
Still watching Low Life, another period piece about salvaging shipwrecked pottery off the Korean coast, and Mystic Pop-Up Bar, a fantasy show about earning redemption. I think that's about it. :-)

Intriguing premise! Must be costly to film too if they're on the water through each season.

ETA: When I said "period piece", I meant the 1970s. Heh.
