I'm rewatching Anonymous Noise (though half as background) and debating if I want to at least try to finish the manga via the library system. The anime doesn't get as deep into it, but it goes infuriatingly hard into love-triangle territory, except more of a love-dodecahedron or something and I just cannot with those.

(iirc I also fell off with reading it during the library pauses in 2020/2021, so... yeah)

I'm not sure why Dream Productions wasn't just a movie. I like having a show set in this universe, exploring something briefly shown in the movies. But I don't see why this was a season (mini-series?) with just four episodes that also had a continuous story. Monsters at Work does it better.

I felt the same about the latest LEGO Star Wars show I watched. It could have just been a movie.

Okay, this week was kinda varied in terms of watch time.

I started rewatching Hoarders and Suppernanny USA during my week. Only really watched as a result of curiosity.

I started Castaway Diva, a K-drama about a girl who geted yeeted onto an island and gets rescued later. Pretty charming. Not as charming as..

Behind Your Touch, a different South Korean show with weird psychic powers, and a veterinarian gal who uses them to help out a cop from Seoul in her hometown. It is very sweet at the start, showing innocent animal perspectives, but it takes a turn for a mystery thriller angle I really like.

My roommate lastly introduced me to Matlock and Elsbeth, two shows about older female lawyers who help with equally weird cases for the purpose of revenge against their new bosses. I love both shows very dearly, but the episodes are very very long so it is hard to binge.

I've started Behind Your Touch but haven't made much headway yet. I'm a little nervous about the thriller angle, I think -- how dark does it get?

Hmm.. In terms of the murder mystery/thriller parts, I have a feeling it has some relevance to plot bits brought up in episode one..

I am only up to episode three so far, and I planned on rewatching Dexter so I may not have too much time for Behind Your Touch.

not currently watching anything special, but a friend hooked me up with downloads of Interior Chinatown last night, so I'm hoping to binge that soon. the trailer and a detailed review on TOR was really appealing

Finished the last season of Great Christmas Light Fight and enjoyed it more than expected. Watched another episode of Skeleton Crew which held my interest, and I finished off Marlowe Murder Club. I liked it but felt the ending was ridiculously dragged out and was so improbable.

I've found I like watching Great British Baking Show around the holidays. Might be because I first saw it at that time, but also because it's easy comfort viewing. Have been seeing it via Roku Channel and went back to the first 4 seasons which I never saw via Netflix. I preferred that format, although seeing S1 with the ridiculous change of location each week (must have affected the baking given the differing temperatures of being in a city center or near the sea, etc.) was somewhat hilarious. All these passerby staring into the tent or in the background of shots (must have been distracting and also spoilerish). Must have been loads simpler to have one location the whole season which is isolated from passerby.

Is Marlowe Murder Club any good? I finally got around to watching the most recent Agatha Christie flicks (well, two of them, I wanna rewatch Haunting in Venice tonight) and now I am kinda craving more British focused mystery stuff.

Except for the ending I thought it was fairly interesting, I liked the characters.
naushika: (Star Trek - Trip/T'Pol - dat kiss)

[personal profile] naushika 2024-12-14 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The recent Lower Decks episode made me very happy. Well, they all make me happy, but I enjoyed seeing T'Pol again, one of my favorite Trek characters, and it had something of a fix-it with regards to T'Pol and Trip's ending. :) I'm really sad LD is almost over.

I'm in season 6 of my first-time Criminal Minds watch, and I'm liking that the show is shaking things up a little. They were starting to get into a rut, in terms of the types of unsubs, but the last couple episodes I watched changed it up. JJ has left the show at this point, which was immediately a mistake - the balance is very much off without her. I don't mind Seaver (I'm predisposed to liking her, because the actress starred in a show I liked called Continuum), though her reason for being with the BAU is a little flimsy and she doesn't measure up to JJ. Fortunately I know JJ is coming back soon.

Oh! I saw the Garak and Bashir clips all over Tumblr but not T'Pol. What was the fixit?
naushika: (Star Trek - Trip/T'Pol - close)

[personal profile] naushika 2024-12-14 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Garak and Bashir made a huge splash! That was great also. The T'Pol from this episode was from an alternate reality where she and Trip were married for 63 years! So, they got a happy ending (in another reality, but close enough).

This week, we finished The Franchise (sort of dark and bitter, and everyone is terrible For Comedy) and A Man on the Inside (I was strongly resisting the emotional string-pulling, and watching it at arm's length, and it was... fine?). We also watched Short Circuit on DVD, which wow, has not aged well in some regards.

More of The Old Man (two episodes to go) and finished season 3 of Ted Lasso (rewatch), which felt fan-service-y to me.

In theory I'm watching Behind Your Touch, but I haven't had much Kdrama time.

Did you like The Franchise? I struggled a bit with the first episode.

IIRC, the first episode is pretty representative in tone. It felt very Iannucci (wacky and everyone was awful in different ways), so it depends if that's your thing. I probably wouldn't have kept watching if it weren't for the film-industry setting, fwiw.

[personal profile] feurioo 2024-12-18 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I already couldn't watch Veep because the constant cursing and everybody being awful felt overwhelming after a while. Maybe Iannucci and I are simply not meant to be...

Yeah, I never got into Veep, and we've stalled out halfway through season 2 of Avenue 5. It feels like it should be our thing, but... /o\

I've been rewatching some Gilmore Girls this past week, just random episodes. I guess I've been in the mood for something more idyllic and something I'm familiar with with this time of year, and things being kind of stressful being the holiday season this is the kind of cozy show that fits that mood for me at the moment.

Not a good week, sleep-wise, and nerves-wise, but I recovered towards the end.

I continued First Note Of Love, now on ep 8, and I love it *so much*. I don't exactly know why, but the older musician (older, ha, he's 27) is very cute indeed, and the direction is good (not too slow, not too slapsticky, just right), and the relationship beats are great, too. I also hadn't expected there to be a secondary pairing (involving Liu Min Ting, who played Lin Jing on Guardian), and a Thai character who sometimes speaks Thai, and sometimes they all speak English when he's around. Which makes it even easier to understand than the Taiwanese was in the first place. I am really enjoying the hell out of this show.

Other than that, I got my hands on stuff I would like to watch, but haven't started any of it. (Under the Skin s2, Interior Chinatown, Somebody Somewhere s3, HPI s1 - the original French version of High Potential).

I haven't watched a lot because I had an exam which I have been stressing over for the past six months.

I'm mainly here to say: The second half of my daily soap crack OTP has finally returned after four years of waiting! He met my OTP's first half at the end of the episode and TPTB already announced that the two will share some sort of big storyline.

Disclaimer: The duo only had two big storylines in the 10+ years they've been on the show together. 1. She accidentally killed his wife and hid it. 2. Eight years later, he became her physical therapist after a bad fall, and the two finally became friends.

It seems that her current (cheating) husband will die in January, and my OTP's second half will help her with her grief/guilt (she seems to be somehow at fault). They also announced that there will be a special week in February where she will face her inner demons and he might also have a part in it. Not sure the show will make it happen after more than ten years, but to quote Fox Mulder: "I want to believe!" Even if it doesn't turn romantic, I can always write fanfic. :)

Yay for the reuniting of OTPs! The actors for my longstanding OTP are still on their soap; I get unreasonably annoyed when I am reminded they're not still together -- and it's been at least 20 years since I watched the show regularly! 😆

Haha, I always imagine that I will quit the show for good if they ever separate after becoming a couple. Then again, I've always returned to this show regardless of the silly plots or terrible PR stunts they pulled.

Would you go back to your show should your OTP reunite? Or is there no chance that'll ever happen? And if you don't mind answering: What about them/their story made you fall in love with them as a couple in the first place?

Finished Man on the Inside - the Michael Schur dramedy with Ted Danson, who gets hired by a PI to pose as a new resident of a retirement community in order to uncover a theft. It's a touching story, with some snicker moments, but nothing really laugh out loud funny (although mileage may vary on that score). I think one or two lines made me laugh. Also deals with a difficult topic, Alzheimers, surprisingly well - by briefly focusing on it, but not making it the central focus.

Reminds me a little of the Only Murders in the Building mystery set-up, where the mystery takes a back seat to the quirky characters.

Also watched A Biltmore Christmas that has Jonathan Frakes (Number 2 from STNG) in a guest role. It was surprisingly entertaining. It's filmed at the Biltmore estate, apparently. And the setup is a writer is tasked with doing a modern version of an old 1947 Hollywood Christmas Classic, the Merry Wife (which feels like a rip-off of The Bishop's Wife, also 1947, and more or less the same plot). The heroine falls for the guy playing the Cary Grant role - he even looks a little bit like Grant. It's a time travel film - it doesn't take place in the 1940s, the heroine travels magically back to the 1940s and meets Houston, then magically returns - it being a NETFLIX (think Hallmark) romantic christmas movie - you know they'll end up together. But it does have a nice twist in that instead of the female lead giving up her world and everything to go back in time to be with the male lead, it's well the opposite, which I appreciated. Also they don't go back in time, nor do they romanticize it. So overall better than most.

Watching Arcane S2 finally - after completing my rewatch of Arcane S1. The characters change a great deal through this story and it is among the most character driven animated tales that I've seen to date. Somewhat surprising considering its origin is a violent video game - you'd think it would be the opposite, it's not. It is still violent, graphically so - but if you've seen any adult anime, it won't bother you nor seem all that bad. Reminds me a lot of anime, actually. Has the songs, and a kind of jagged vidder feel to it? But the vocal acting, and the characters, not to mention art is so compelling, I handwaved the video game bits.

Theme song is an earworm, it sticks in the head afterwards.

But, it has some strong female characters, several queer characters, and kind of hits several of my story kinks/tropes head on: sisters/siblings relationships, badass female heroines, who take on more masculain roles and are almost androgynous in their portrayal (Violet is a fav), and each character evolves and changes in interesting ways. Also a heavy anti-war, anti-violence, and wary of power themes.

It's not for folks who are photosensitive or have issues with flashing lights or strobbing, heavy metal rock music, or graphic violence in animated form.

Don't spoil me. I'm on episode five or six.
