2x04 Crucible

Probably won't catch this until tomorrow because: Halloween! but o__o

I love how Laurel & her dad have switched places this season. But I'm still constantly rolling my eyes over how a hood & voice changer makes you unrecognizeable e__e lol. Especially when people are looking UP at him from below, like in the last ep. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

2x04 Crucible

plOT TWIST! Goodness! I will admit that I didn't see that coming with the Alderman. The first time he showed up, I thought: hm, maybe evil. But they snowed me, and so I was unprepared. I am not familiar with DC canon though, enough to say who Brother Blood is.

Liked:

-Kevin Alejandro is now a villain. I'll watch that dude make toast, basically. And he was criminally underused in True Blood. So I'm stoked to see him on my TV again, especially as the villain!

-His reveal came just on the heels of revealing that Ollie already knew Sarah had survived! (Is this good retconning I wonder? And how come Dinah [Laurel] is not the black canary?) Can't wait to see how she was brainwashed into torturing Ollie. That island was clearly magical, in that all governments want to conquer it, and everyone within a week's worth of floating washed up there.

-I enjoy looking at Colton Haynes very much.

No Liked:

-Um so the bad guy is black? OH and you killed him. SURPRISE. sigh

-Sarah is supposed to be...butch? a man hater? bisexual? I feel like she was throwing off some very confusing signifiers, vis a vis her gender performance. She lowered her voice so it was all tough and scratchy; she wore a baseball hat to be incognito; she's worried about her trauma-surviving sidekick who is either Skipper or a lesbian. What is the show trying to show us with her character?

Meh:

-I mean I get why they want to show Laurel processing her grief, but lol to the "oh my gosh, she's been drinking for 28 minutes time for an ~intervention" plot device. Is her dad in like Al-Anon or something there?

-Were they trying to set up a perceptual triangle between Felicity, Laurel and Ollie?

Pretty much what I know about Brother Blood comes from the Teen Titans comics (the "new" ones with Tim and Superboy) because he seems to like fighting them. He was in the Outsiders, too. I haven't reread either series for a while, but it's kinda icky and is supposed to be, like, a teenager, not an adult politician.

I don't mind Oliver knowing Sarah survived--I'd have to watch last season again in order to judge the level of retcon involved. I do, however, have a problem with her being Black Canary, what with her sister around and all and actually being named Dinah Lance (more or less). Is Sarah gonna die and Laurel take up the mantle? She'd need training. What about the Canary Scream thing being an electronic device? Isn't it part of her in the comics?

That island is, like, the worst kept secret. Who *doesn't* know it's there by this point?

Whatever else happens on the show, I love Felicity. She's cute and smart and a chick who isn't at all annoying. She doesn't hinder Ollie, she's useful, and even when looking out for him in what could be a nagging way, it doesn't come off that way.

I know there is no thread like this but i wanted to get this down before i lost it.

- Sara/h(?) is really growing on me, and i'm enjoying her character. Oliver kinda took a back seat to her this episode and it was nice
- not enough Felicity & Dig though
- I'm not sure how i feel about Laurel's Storyline
- Felicity/Sarahhhhhh I ship it. So cute.

OH MY GOD ARE WE FINALLY FINDING OUT WHY EVERYONE WANTS THIS ISLAND. This is very exciting. Also, this stem cell thing could explain how Oliver is so badass.

but also WAIT his island friends aren't dead, though, right? Did I miss something?

Also Also I keep forgetting: SQUEE OHAI SUMMER GLAU. This show now officially has geek cred. I really like her fur head thing. AND Janet Frasier!!! hay gurl.

Oh AND it looks like they ARE going to frame Felicity as a sexpot. :/

fun fact: the guy who plays Ollie has a cousin who is also currently the star of a TV show on prime time: The Tomorrow People (although arguably I'd call Pellegrino the star but ymmv).

:D This felt like a classic ep of Smallville or something. Very comic book-y with the villain and the prison set. And dude on the island's face.

Damn them, they're kind of making me enjoy Felicity's crush on Ollie. I am resentful of this. But also I love Felicity. ha

Still really enjoying this show. Loved Thea's boxing scene. But uh, isn't she supposed to be in high school? Also I still want to do dirty dirty things to Mr. Haynes. Maybe I should get on that and stop talking about it.

2x08 THE SCIENTIST

A seemingly impossible robbery at Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division brings Central City police scientist Barry Allen to town. Citing a similar case back home, Barry offers to help Oliver and team with the investigation. Oliver senses there is more to Barry than meets the eye, but he’s distracted by the similarities between this current case and something that happened on the island. Meanwhile, Felicity takes a liking to Barry, which doesn’t go unnoticed by Oliver. Sin asks Roy for help when a friend of hers goes missing. Roy is surprised when Thea not only encourages him to help, but joins the search. Unfortunately, Sin’s friend is connected to Brother Blood, and their search ultimately gets one of them seriously injured.

I really enjoyed this episode. I felt so bad for Laurel though. Now no one believes her about Sebastian and she was completely right all along. I'm glad Oliver is finally going to try and help Roy. I hope he actually ends up being helpful.

I love when Oliver said: Roy's not the kind of guy comfortable discussing his feelings.
and then Diggle's like: Not like you and me...

That was awesome!

I'm in the minority maybe, but I was like AUGHHH when Ollie was going to start training Roy (and he is the worst at it, amirite?? Let's go on an outing when you're ragefacing every other minute! good plan, you pushover. :/ :/) but I knewwwww as soon as they went out together that Roy was going to get to know Oliver's identity and that Thea would be left out, AS ALWAYS, this is how it goes in superhero shows. And it's stupid and cliched. :/ I would so much rather Thea (Speedy!) be trained and knowing what Oliver is really doing. Sighs. But at the very least, Thea seems to be able to lessen the rage? So she should be involved, anyway. Plus, Sin! I love Sin! Ramble ramble. I'm also concerned that more Roy lessens Dig. He already has pretty much zero to do. :/

Psyched to see more Walter back & intrigued by this politics run for Moira?! Lance was as per usual the Best Dad, even though he was manipulative about it. Loved Laurel's self-destructiveness and CANNOT WAIT FOR SISTERS REUNION.

(Also I'm crazy intrigued for this Barry show - but sad because if it wasn't a spinoff, maybe we'd see more Barry on Arrow! He and Felicity are just the adorablest.)

This ep was AMAZING. a normalized portrayal of an actual bisexual! and other things happened too! But mostly I'm blown away by the portrayal of Sara!

2x14 Time of Death

Oliver (Stephen Amell) brings Sara (Caity Lotz) into the Arrow team. Watching Oliver and Diggle (David Ramsey) spar with Sara and talk old scars, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) starts to feel left out. The team is investigating a villain named William Tockman, a.k.a. The Clock King (guest star Robert Knepper), who is a brilliant thief armed with technology that can open any bank vault in Starling City. After The Clock King infiltrates the computer systems in the lair, Felicity feels pressure to prove her worth. When she gets a lead on Tockman’s whereabouts, she heads out without the team, putting her in peril. Meanwhile, Oliver throws Sara a welcome home party, but Laurel (Katie Cassidy) refuses to attend. After Lance (Paul Blackthrone) makes his case for a family dinner, Laurel acquiesces, but when Oliver shows up with Sara, she loses her temper on both of them.

This ep! God, there were so many layers here, all involving the question of what we do for our loved ones, how far we go, and how sometimes, communicating your needs and healthy boundaries still doesn't make it ok. We had such a great range of examples of family moments here: from the Felicity-Ollie-Diggle + Sarah bit, through the Clock guy robbing for his sick sister, to the unholy toxicity of the Lance family at the moment, to Sarah as a big sis, through the Queen family mess, and then BAM: the island family reunion happens right in Oliver's living room! SLADE. FINALLY. The stakes are getting higher!

I seriously cannot express the sheer amount of love I have for this show.

2x17 Birds of Prey

When Frank Bertinelli is arrested, Oliver knows it’s only a matter of time before his daughter, Helena, AKA The Huntress, returns to town. To make matters worse, Laurel is picked to try Frank’s case, putting her right in the path of Helena. Oliver tells Sara he will handle his ex-girlfriend, but when Helena takes hostages at the courthouse, including Laurel, the Canary will stop at nothing to save her sister. When The Huntress and Canary meet, an epic battle begins. Meanwhile, Roy realizes he needs to keep Thea safe, but doesn’t like the way he is forced to go about it.

2x18 DEATHSTROKE

Slade makes his move against Oliver and the repercussions are enormous. While Oliver scrambles to protect his family, a key player in his team starts to question Oliver’s decisions. Meanwhile, Isabel makes her move to take Queen Consolidated away from Oliver.

2x19 THE MAN UNDER THE HOOD

Oliver, Canary, Diggle and Felicity return to the lair and find Slade waiting for them. An epic battle breaks out and one member of Team Arrow is sent to the hospital. Thea hits her breaking point, but just as Oliver is about to reach her, Slade intervenes and Oliver is faced with a choice – his battle with Slade or his family. Meanwhile, Laurel struggles with a new secret.

2x20 SEEING RED

The mirakuru sends Roy into an uncontrollable rage and he unleashes on the city. After Roy’s deadly fight with a police officer, Oliver realizes the mirakuru has taken over Roy completely and must figure out a way to stop him. Things get more complicated after Sara declares that Roy is too far gone and the only way to stop him is to kill him. Meanwhile, Thea believes she can breakthrough to Roy so she goes on camera at Moira’s campaign rally to lure him to Verdant. Her ploy works but after Roy attacks Thea, Team Arrow unleashes on him.

2x21 CITY OF BLOOD

After Slade threatens to take everything Oliver loves away, Oliver decides the fastest way to stop further bloodshed is to surrender to his enemy. Knowing that surrender will surely lead to Oliver's death, Diggle and Felicity go to extreme measures to keep Oliver from confronting Slade. Meanwhile, Thea considers leaving town, and Laurel resumes her crusade against Sebastian Blood. Finally, Slade unleashes his assault on Starling City.

2x22 STREETS OF FIRE

Oliver rallies his team as Slade’s soldiers attack the city. Felicity gets a call from S.T.A.R. Labs with game-changing news and Thea comes face-to-face with her father – Malcolm Merlyn.

2x23 UNTHINKABLE

Slade moves forward with his plan to kill one more person in Oliver’s life. While Oliver has fought all year to be more than the killer he once was, when Slade kidnaps someone close to Oliver’s heart, Oliver is pushed to the edge and realizes sometimes it takes doing the unthinkable to stop the monster. Meanwhile, Diggle takes on Amanda Waller with a little help from some friends, and Thea turns to Roy in her time of need.

So I've just started watching with my Spawn (Spawn is a huge Batman fan and, apparently, an even bigger Deadshot fan) ... we're up to 1x5 on Netflix -- which alas has only season 1; anyone know if there are any plans to rerun S2 anywhere? PMs welcome.

I find it interesting how well they misdirected us about Walter for the first few episodes (he certainly had a mustache-twirling vibe for a while)!
