Sailor Moon Cosmos Premieres on Netflix

Cosmos is a direct sequel to Sailor Moon Eternal (2021) and serves as the fifth and final season in the Sailor Moon Crystal anime series. The two-part film was released worldwide on August 22.

What are your favorite anime/animated shows? If you are a Sailor Moon fan, did you prefer Sailor Moon Crystal or the '90s series? And most importantly, team sub or team dub?

I don't have Netflix atm, so I watched it at my friends' flat while cat-sitting. I watched the English dub, bc it was the default language, haha. I might try the German dub next time, but I always find reading the subtitles exhausting. I will always miss the German Luna's nasal voice from the first seasons :D

I've only ever watched Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, the live-action Japanese adaptation, which, while low-budget it's been praised by many fans of the anime/manga. I know of the rest of the Sailor Moon franchise via osmosis.

Aside from what I watched as a kid, I don't really watch much anime or animated shows these days. The ones I have seen are: Castlevania, Black Butler, The Legend of Vox Machina, little bits of Mo Dao Zu Shi (both the donghua and the chibi version).

When it comes to subs versus dubs, it depends. I used to be purely a subtitles only person, which I still am, though my perspective over time has shifted slightly. I think both have gotten slightly better over the years, but there are definitely some setbacks. Some dubbing can sound awkward when the voice actors aren't really matching the emotion or tone of a scene, but when they're good they're really good. And subtitles can be awkwardly translated. Watching a lot of Asian dramas you tend to get used to English subtitles not quite matching what the character is saying. I have quite frequently gone, "that's not what they said" at the screen, which can be pretty funny. Official subs versus fansubs are also a thing, because some prefer fansubs because some put time to add little annotations on the screen for context or better understanding of a word or phrase, which is very thoughtful. And I'll admit that fansubs that add little emojis at the end of a translation can be cute.

I've never seen any Sailor Moon, and am generally not into anime, but I have some favourite animated shows: Avatar: the Last Airbender, Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts, Bojack Horseman (though I don't think I could rewatch), the first season or two of The Dragon Prince, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Krapopolis... are the ones that come immediately to mind. Oh, and Over the Garden Wall, even though I don't remember much about it. :-)

My partner and I are currently watching Strange Planet, but that's more sitcommy than most of the above.

Is that the finale? I don't know any of the episode titles.

I remember being blown away by the underwater ep, but that only really works in context/contrast with the rest of the show, sadly.

I really liked that it was closer to the manga, with the guardians etc. Though it seemed super rushed. Having a small series with that quality? Yes, please!

And bc I'm bad at replying to all the questions, I'm commenting on myself.
My first great love was Queen Millennia. I was raised on the old German Tele 5 channel with Miyuki, Lady Oscar etc. and they still have a place in my heart. Also Gargoyles, Odysseus 31, Cowboy Bebop (I used to have a self-made Faye Valentine mood-theme on LJ), Full Metal Alchemist, A:tLA, Bleach.
I always find reading the subtitles exhausting, but German dubs usually were pretty good. I always wanted to watch more subs, but as I said, exhausting.

90s show, the Crystal version is too...smooth.

I only watched the German dub back in the day, which seems to have been decent. I recently got my hands on the remastered German dubs that also includes the Japanese version.

at least the files are labelled that way 😅 some research turns out that there is a true remaster and a scale up, but I can't tell if this is the English version or the Japanese version or what....
