TV Tuesday: Dopplegangers

There are a lot of actors my partner and I think look alike that we keep spotting in different shows. For example there are two we refer to as British John Stamos or British Jake Gyllenhall because we see a strong resemblance.

Are there TV actors who you always mix up, perhaps because of roles they've played or because they seem so similar to you?

For the longest time (until I learned their names), I thought that Thomas Gibson and Eric McCormack were one person.

British Jake Gyllenhall

I want to know which British actor that is.

For me it's probably John Hannah, Titus Welliver and to a lesser extent, James Nesbitt. Thank goodness they all have very different accents.

I have never heard of him, and going over his IMDB data, I haven't seen anything he's been in either.

I'm constantly having to explain to my mother that the actor she keeps identifying as "Geoffrey from Hetty Wainthropp" (aka Dominic Monaghan, Merry from LOTR, Charlie from Lost) is actually an old Emmerdale actor (Karl Davies, the previous Robert Sugden). I don't see it myself.

I'm reminded of a movie I saw in the past year, Quiz Lady, where Holland Taylor played a character who was utterly smitten with Alan Cummings, only the person she always confused him with was Pee Wee Herman. It made for one of the funniest scenes in the film.

I literally thought Bryce Dallas Howard from Jurassic Park and Jessica Chastain were the same person.

I could see that too, especially earlier in their careers.
