I've started rewatching Waterloo Road, one of the worst shows I've ever passionately loved. It's an absolutely ludicrous school drama, full of extramarital affairs, illicit teacher-student relationships, attempted murder, teen pregnancy, addiction, injury and every disaster you could possibly imagine befalling a school, ranging from 'the place gets set on fire' to 'everyone gathers together for a group photograph and gets hit by a lorry'. (I realise it sounds like I'm making the lorry one up, but I swear it is absolutely true.) It's so stupid. I'm having an incredible time.
Oh no, that is the possibly the most terrible group photo ever?! I know nothing about this show, but I enjoyed your passionate recap of its enjoyable stupidity. :D
I am all over the place right now. There are a number of shows I've read/heard about that I am potentially interested, but either the reviews are bad, or very mixed, so I've been watching first eps of many of them to see if it's something I might like anyway, and it leaves me feeling very scattered because I don't like having multiple shows on the go. So I am now trying to focus on actually finishing some of my "already started to watch shows", e.g. Fallout, which I did finish watching the other day, and The Twelve (aussie show about a murder trial jury), which I hope to finish this weekend.
Which means that this week I mostly watched weekly stuff (some ending for the season, e.g. Curse of Oak Island) and others starting up (Welcome to Wrexham s03), and as much tennis as I could (Madrid Open), which wasn't as much as I would have liked as I have to be in the office 3 days/wk.
I want to get some of these question mark shows out of the way because there's a new series dropping on Apple this week that looks potentially quite good -- Dark Matter, although I will probably wait until most of the episodes have been released before starting it, so should be able to get through some other shows in the interim. Also Bodkin coming on Netflix this week looks potentially fun.
I started Dead Boy Detectives! I got through two episodes, I might watch more while cleaning later today. Also looking forward to watching more Fallout tonight. My friends and I have a movie(+tv) night on Saturdays where we watch stuff together and the show we're about right now is Fallout so I have to force myself to wait for Saturdays to watch more.
I watched: The Circle S6: I gave up. It's simply way too boring. Myles is the only contestant I genuinely like.
Frankly Speaking: Very silly but enjoyable. Ko Kyung-pyo is the king of unflattering facial expressions in this one.
Lovely Runner: Binged it because I was sick this week. I tend to be wary about time-travel shows and some of the heavier subject matter within the series, but so far, they've kept it masterfully light and sweet. Probably the cutest K-drama couple of the year. So charming!
Taskmaster UK S17: I really adored Steve Pemberton this week.
On my list: The Atypical Family, Blood Free. I must also get back into Three-Body!
I started Taskmaster New Zealand season 2 this week! This is the first spin-off Taskmaster that I've seen, and it's been great fun (although the NZ Taskmaster is definitely not as great a presence as Greg Davies).
I love the New Zealand version! (And season two in particular is stellar; have a great time!) I was afraid nobody would be able to fill Alex Horne's shoes, but Paul Williams is absolutely perfect in the role of the assistant. The Australian version is also good fun.
That's one of my all-time favourite series of Taskmaster! I agree, Jeremy doesn't have the same presence or humour as Greg, but the cast is just stellar.
Finished the Bad Batch, and am on the last 30 minutes of the Bon Jovi documentary. I really like that it has not gone in the usual celebrity/band bio direction. Even though it seems to me a lot is glossed over this is inevitable with a 40 year career and only 4 episodes.
Have two more episodes of Shogun to go, can't wait to see the end. Started watching the latest season of Call the Midwife, tried out Sister Boniface, watched an episode of the last season of Grantchester. Might have seen an All Creatures this week.
Dead Boy Detectives: finally watched this and it was great! was surprised to find Ruth Connell (Rowena from Supernatural) in it, but I loved her character.
High Country (australian): I waited until ep 8 dropped and then binged the whole series. It wasn't as good as I was hoping. Had its moments, but I started to lose interest part way through.
Clarkson's Farm: Watched the four eps of S3 that dropped on Amazon and enjoyed it. Not sure why I find this show so entertaining but I do lol. Just a heads up though if you decide to check it out, episode 4 features quite a lot of heartbreaking animal (pig) death.
The Circle: still watching this but they are playing it very... safe, I guess it the word. Not a lot happening. Only one ep left. I'm gunning for Brandon/Olivia to win but only because everyone else is kinda boring. At least Brandon/Olivia has the catfish element.
Otherwise just weekly stuff nothing of note except: Hacks is back which is awesome The Veil watched the first two eps which I quite liked. The Sympathiser is good, especially Robert Downey Jnr in his many roles lol and Sandrah Oh is in it too which has been fun - it has an aussie actor Hoa Xuande in the lead role and he is quite good too.
We're on to season 2 of Veronica Mars and wow, it feels like a sudden drop in narrative coherence. (I don't care about either of her love interests, so.) We're running out of steam on Boston Legal, too. We might need to switch to something else...
Dead Boy Detectives (2024): I just watched the first episode, and while I personally don't generally vibe with teen/YA shows, I'm a fan of the source material and think the show is doing some really interesting things visually and thematically in the adaptation/update. I'm looking forward to checking out the rest of the season and seeing if something or someone really hooks me. (Watching on Netflix)

The originals are iconic, of course, but I totally agree that Paul is great as the assistant. Thanks for the rec for the Australian version! :)
