Speak Up Saturday

Welcome to the weekly roundup post! What are you watching this week?

Bonus question: If you could write fan fiction based on any of the TV you watched this week, which program would be your source material?

All Creatures Great & Small - US airing of the Xmas special as S4E7. Not terribly surprising. (When someone says that something should 'be around Christmastime', it's clearly not surprising when that happens in the Xmas special.)

Fire Country - S2E2. Well, the 'tell Bode repeatedly that he just needs to put his head down and follow instructions' aspect feels a lot like season one.
Sharon related spoilersThe S1 finale had her going off to surgery to get the kidney transplant she'd been waiting for, and I could understand that the six month time jump in S2E1 meant we wouldn't need to get into the finer details of surgical recovery. However, I wasn't expecting this season to seem to do a "everything's fine" sort of route. Unless we're not going to see something until later this season, it's almost like there's no post-transplant differences in her life at all. I can understand not wanting to have surgery complications, organ rejection, or something serious, but like... Is she not taking any anti-rejection medications at the very least? (Last season included enough medical scenes at home that I don't think showing this character taking some pills or having a week-day pill organizer would be a stretch.)

Also: Tracker (S1E2), and Will Trent (S2E1).

So, in regards to Fire Country - I'm midway through S1, does it get better in S2? I was hoping Bode would move out of the prison/Three Rock camp?

Is the second episode of Tracker better than the first?

Fire CountryIt kind of depends on what better looks like for you. We seem to have stopped with the gambling addiction plot line for one character, resolved a medical issue for another, and are no longer doing a 'will Gabriela choose Bode or Jake' angle. However, the S1 finale is based around Bode going up before the parole board, and after the time jump and kinda fixing things in S2E1, S2E2 starts out with Bode returning to Three Rock with another chance at parole.

He's definitely not getting out of Three Rock before S1 ends, but I'm honestly not sure yet about S2. (With the combined strikes and shorter season, it could be possible that S2 could have Bode going up for parole again and even getting out in probably 12 - 13 episodes, but I don't know if The Powers That Be want another 'will he make parole in the finale' approach.)

TrackerThe overarching matter of Colter's family and backstory gets some progress, but I'm not sure if it's really enough to hold anyone who can't tolerate the weekly case. (It might be something that won't be easy to judge until later.) Colter didn't meet any past one-night stands or hook up with anyone new and he avoided needing bailed out of jail, so that's not shaping up to be an every episode occurrence. I think in some ways S1E2 was better, but it might depend on how you tolerate fictional depictions of cults and getting someone out of one. For a one-off episode, I could tolerate it, but I'd rather not run into a repeat of this type of case in the show (the resolution is kinda simple, and extracting someone from a high-control group often isn't that easy).

On Fire Country? I'll stick with it, since it wraps up the three issues that I needed resolved. I hate love triangles - so I'm glad they got rid of that. It makes sense that Bode doesn't get freed just yet - I think, I could be wrong about this - that they are gearing up to make him Captain of Three Rock

Thanks for the information on Tracker. It's good that they aren't doing the hook up of the week or getting bailed out of the week bit. But, I don't think I do the second episode's plot. I have a very low tolerance for that trope - which is overdone and handled badly since roughly the 1970s on television. Now we have way too many documentaries on it. I think there's one on every streaming channel now? So I can see why they did it. But I'd rather they not go there - unless they can do it justice. So, looks like I'm skipping the second episode. Thanks for the warning.

I think I'll just do Fire Country, 9-1-1, and Will Trent via Hulu. Shame, I like Justine Hartley.
