TV Tuesday: Blorbos, Babes and Faves

Which actor do you feel has been away from your screen for too long, and what sort of project would you like to see them return in? Or maybe it's a creator or other behind-the-scenes person?

Everyone I thought of, I googled first to check and turns out they are still quite active doing stuff, just nothing I want to watch. Ho hum.

Yes, sometimes I wonder "whatever happened to X" and it turns out they're still doing stuff (though often short term guest roles) and I'd not heard of those shows.

Flip side of this, I guess, is I'm amazed how many currently big stars appeared in X-Files episodes before they became famous. Jack Black, Lucy Liu, Ryan Reynolds, Jane Lynch, Giovanni Ribisi, too many to name!

Yeah, the timing of a long running show can make a difference in those sort of later names. I know there's a joke about how every actor has been on Law & Order once.

I'm the same! There are some things I just won't watch, even if my favorites are in it.

Mine would be Christopher Jane, who is partly a voice actor and partly a screen actor. He hasn't done a ton of work yet, but he voiced my all-time favorite character in Resident Evil 4 Remake, so I'm kinda biased. I would love to see him in a new project, I don't care if it's a video game or a TV show or whatever else there is!

Your comment about voice actors reminded me that I recently watched S2 of the MCU's What If? series. It sounded like a lot of the film actors had done the voices and many of them had. But I also noticed an actor who I first heard of because of Buffy conventions -- Robin Atkins Downs. Apparently he's still doing voice work as he was in the whole season.

It's super fascinating to investigate voice actors and what work they're doing! It can turn into a real rabbit hole! lol

I wanted to list Brooke Smith, Nicole Beharie, and Eric Stoltz but, turns out, all of them have some stuff going on that I wasn't aware of.

I'm only familiar with Enver and Ruth, but agree that it's been a while since I've seen either. I thought I hadn't seen her since Loving but Ad Astra was several years later and I saw that too.

Technically my biggest problem in seeing my favorite actors is that I don't have access to the projects they've been in. Bradley James has not worked a lot since Merlin and I've seen all but Bounty Hunters and Kurier (both ending/released in 2019).

By contrast, Colin Morgan has worked relentlessly but I haven't seen the last 4 shows he's been on, (or 5 of his films). I like seeing the rest of the Merlin cast in other roles and have caught various of them on different shows. Rupert Young was the one most missing from the screen it seemed but then he finally appeared on Bridgerton. I didn't even recognize him!

I would definitely like to see Bradley and Colin appearing in the same project again, either in a comedy or in a show set in space (which seems to be the only time period neither has done yet!)

I have a tendency to get enamored of actors who aren't in that much or in things that don't spark my interest.

That said? I want more of Cillian Murphy, who has the frustrating habit of doing one movie a year, then taking a year off in between.

Also more of James Marsters but with good writing and direction. He's been in some gadawful stuff.

There is sometimes a magical placement of actor and role, which ends up never getting duplicated in later roles. In some cases I think it's because many actors get typecast but future roles don't have the same quality (or other factors) that made the earlier one a standout.

I think this is true. Definitely with Marsters - who just fit the role of Spike, but hasn't quite shone in anything else. But it may just be the luck of the draw - so to speak.

I'd like to see Yasuko Kobayashi return to write a tokusatsu. She's still out there writing! But mainly for the David Production's Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime. Would love to see her write a toku again if she ever wanted to/had the chance. I am glad she's still getting plenty of work regardless, since I adore her work.

It's always good to see people still in the business. It's a tough one to keep employed in!

I agree! I'm glad she's still getting work and that writing for this adaptation has given her a lot of steady and reliable work.
