I binged the first half of the final series of The Crown, which dropped on Thursday. Other than that... Weekly shows such as Shetland, Curse of Oak Island, and the season finale of Welcome to Wrexham. Oh, and one show I keep forgetting to mention, season 4 of All Creatures Great and Small. And both the Canadian and UK episodes of Bake Off. And tennis (ATP Nitto Cup). I think that's pretty much it -- didn't start anything new, other than The Crown, which isn't technically "new", just new episodes.
Still watching Spy X Family (Hulu), Sullivan's Crossing, Great British Bake-Off, SurReal Estate, Lessons in Chemistry, and The Buccaneers on Apple TV.
Started up again "For All Mankind" on Apple TV - its an AU version of the US space race, where Russia won the space race from the get-go, and NASA struggles to catch up, from NASA's perspective.
Flirting with a couple of movies, Nyad (about the ocean swimmer who swim from Cuba to Florida in the 1970s in her 60s), Fair Play (lovers who compete for the same job and destroy each other in the process - Netflix), and Blue Beetle (Max). On reserve for Holidays - Quiz Lady on Hulu (road trip with Awakfina and Sandra Oh), Barbie (rental).
Flirting with the following series: Bodies, Blue Eye Samari, Fall of the House of Usher, Changling and All the Light We Cannot See (all on Netflix)
I was on a work trip and therefore watched only a few shows this week.
I watched: The Big Family Cooking Showdown. I noticed very late that I actually started with the second season. This explains the many times I felt as if the hosts needed more introduction. Still, I really like the feel of it.
A Good Day to Be a Dog. Some odd narrative choices this week. I thought this was a fluffy romantic comedy but now we suddenly get a bullying episode and a teen shaman?!
Castaway Diva. Decided to give up on it.
Also watched Quiz Lady with a couple of friends. Mainly for Sandra Oh. Liked that she was allowed to play against type but otherwise, the story was pretty average and not that funny. (Also: Not a big fan of Awkwafina.)
Might have to take a look at: The Curse, Three-Body (Chinese), and Squid Game: The Challenge.
Yellowstone. Missed this when everyone was watching. It's like Sons of Anarchy on horses. Gorgeously shot and the scenery is just exhilarating. Also, some nice moral statements, and a lovely romance. We are enjoying it.
Now on S4 of The Americans, still watching Wrexham and Dancing With the Stars each week. Tried out that new mystery series on Hulu, Murder at the End of the World but bailed after Episode 2. It had an interesting premise for the lead and I figured Ep 1 was set up, and Ep 2 more setup. But it's just dreary and not grabbing me.
The best example I can give about how drawn out it is was that in Ep 1 we have an ENTIRE SONG sung by the two lead characters while riding in a car. 30 seconds at most people, we get it!
We accidentally started The Man in the High Castle and Bodies at the same time, so we're switching between them. Also still watching Double Parked (New Zealand sitcom about two lesbians who inadvertently get pregnant at the same time).
In Kdramas, I'm re-watching Still 17 and While You Were Sleeping (2017), both favs of mine.
I'm currently on the last season of Atlanta and enjoying more than S3, the focus on the main cast has been really good. Still watching Heartstopper S2, ugh my heart, the main leads are so cute. I'm also watching Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You, live action on Netflix.
On Crunchyroll, I'm currently watching The Apothecary Diaries and Heaven Official's Blessing.
I binge watched The Lazurus Project Season 2 the other day and it was very good. One of those ones you where have to pay attention to the timeline or get confused though because its a bit wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey.
Also finished Bodies, finally. I'm glad I did because I enjoyed the rest of it. It was also a bit wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey lol
Weekly things of note:
Caught up with Season 7 of Shetland, and almost had a heart attack at the end of one of the eps. But thankfully it was all good. Bit sad about a character leaving but I like the actor that plays the replacement, so planning to start Season 8 any day now.
Black Cake - enjoying this so far, I like the story being told in two timelines, but they've already revealed a few secrets and I'm just... some secrets are fine, but too many and I start to wonder how people can live with all the lies and secrecy.
A Murder at the End of the World - loooove this so far. But I hope it has something more unique about it, and doesn't just turn into another agatha christie style murder mystery.
Beacon 23 - kinda eh about which is very weird since I am a HUGE sci-fi fan and also Hugh Howey is one of my fav authors (he wrote the book series), and I've read the first book in this series, but the show is not gripping me, so will see how it goes I guess.
The Curse - I'm pretty sure I am not going to stick with this one. It was ok, but not really my cup of tea. I'm hoping its just a slow burn and it will get a bit better next episode.
The Bucaneers - This is a period show with young women looking to get married etc but for some weird reason it uses modern rock music. It's strange, but not bad so far.
