I think it's hard to be a purist with adaptations because the creators are almost always going to have their own vision and things alter a lot when you can't show much of a character's inner dialogue and have to rely on visual clues.

I'm not spoiled for season 8 finale and don't know which character you're talking about, but am sad for you. I hate knowing what's coming and knowing I'm going to dislike it. Makes me lose momentum sometimes. :(
