Haven 5x01 Discussion Post

HAVEN IS BACK!!!

Since there are at least a few Haven fans here in the community, I thought I'd put up a discussion/reaction post for the premiere.

No need to do white text for spoilers, and if you read the comments, please assume that there will be spoilers for this episode and anything that came before.

*I won't be watching live, so I'll be ignoring comments until I catch the episode later on tonight or tomorrow morning.

Have fun and play nice :)

So it's safe to say I hate Mara.

While I understand the part where Audrey was just a set of memories, and that Mara's the real person, I hope Audrey isn't really gone. I mean, she didn't shoot Nathan, but that doesn't always mean anything.

I... so cannot remember where I read it or who said it, but they were wondering if Mara was actually aware of what was happening, but was trapped as just a spectator. But it still doesn't address what she meant by trying for 500 years when she couldn't DO anything. Also, if it WAS 500 years, that's like.. 17 different sets of memories. No wonder she's pissed off, LOL.

Definitely. Experiences shape who we are, Mara cannot claim that she's still the same person and what we see right now might be her trying desperately to hang onto herself.

Well, she ALSO didn't kill Dwight when she had him dead to rights; she just knocked him down and then tased him. "Mara" doesn't have the attachment to these people that Audrey does, so if Mara was fully in control, there was no reason for her not to kill Dwight while she could.

And, bottom line, I just don't believe that they'll completely erase Audrey. She is, ultimately, the show's heroine.

*facepalm* I just made my dwight response in a comment to someone else. this is where my brain is.

It might not have anything to do with Audrey's control and more the influence of Audrey's memories and her attachment to these people. Also, the writers not wanting to kill off all their main cast, LOL.

I can't wait to see how the writers handle all this.

I really hope Jennifer is okay ;_;

And yeah, she didn't kill Dwight, but that could have just been cause the writers didn't want to kill off all their main cast, LOL.

I have to confess I'm just not all that engaged by Mara and Nathan's pining conviction that his True Love can save Audrey from evil. I mean...I feel like all of that is a given, first of all, and secondly, I've really come to dislike Nathan's proprietary behavior about Audrey as if she ONLY belongs to him. Which makes me sad, because I really loved Nathan for a long time. But it feels like he's ONLY become his love story.

I'm much more interested in Duke and Dwight and the Teagues trying to hold it all together, and the prospect of Troubles that the Crockers have eliminated suddenly coming back into play. Are they escaping from Duke somehow? Or is it blood related, as Duke guessed? What HAPPENED in those last moments in the lighthouse? Dave seemed to be remembering something that whammied them all, something that even Mara was afraid of...was it Jennifer? Who closed the thinnies?

If you take it from the stance that, for Nathan, Audrey was everything, then it makes sense. He could feel her touch and, for a guy who can't feel ANYTHING, that's a huge deal! I watched the writers' livestream afterwards and they actually said they were going to deal with the question of whether or not Nathan's love for Audrey is BECAUSE he can feel her of it it's something else. I always wondered it myself and it explains SO much.

I really wanna know who sealed the thinnies. Because if it's true that Jennifer isn't powerful enough, then it brings someone important into play. Maybe Agent Howard really isn't gone? Could be. I want to know more about this other place.

I need to watch the episode again, but I want to see if these recurring troubles are happening when Duke is super stressed. Because we know THAT brings out the troubles in some people, so maybe it's just that Duke himself is doing these unconsciously instead of them escaping and wreaking havic on their own. HE was the one who touched the grass. He talked to the car crash guy.

I think it makes sense up to a point. But Nathan is also a lawman. He's a second generation law man. He grew up in Haven and, despite his difficulties (Trouble), he loves Haven. He's always been such a staunch defender of Haven. And yeah, I get that Audrey is the love of his life and it's a big deal, I'm not trying to diminish that...it is and should be a definite concern of his. But it's not the ONLY concern and I'd like to see Nathan remember that a little more. Be a little more of the guy we've known all this time, upstanding and protective of his people (all his people) and not just hung up on the small picture, but the big picture, too. I want Nathan to remember there's more at stake than his love story with Audrey. OR, I at least want him to show awareness that the other guys are taking up the slack while he chases after Audrey. That would also be acceptable for me. Just some acknowledgement that this is not JUST about Nathan & Audrey and Nathan IS aware of that, even if he can't disengage because it's AUDREY.

I really want to watch it again, also, especially to watch Dave's flashback. SOMETHING big happened in the light house before it collapsed, that seems obvious and something that wasn't controlled by most of the people present, since they all got blown/transported elsewhere.

I'm hoping that, now that Dwight knows, he's going to knock some sense into Nathan. He's been all crazed since Audrey went into the barn and hasn't really come out of it yet.

The blown elsewhere thing is so confusing and I was so distracted by the cast livetweeting that I wasn't paying enough attention. Definitely need to rewatch tonight.
