Friday Social Post

Here in the US it's the start of Labor day weekend (and if Wikipedia isn't lying to me, Monday's Labour Day in Canada as well).

With that in mind, I thought a summer/end of summer themed Friday 5 could be fun for our Friday Social Post!

Five Questions:

Do you watch more or less TV in the summer?
Do you watch a lot of the shows that air in summer?
Do you go out and do more actual 'real life' things in the summer?
Do you take vacations? (during the summer or other times)
Are you looking forward to the Fall TV schedule starting back up again?

Answer as many or as few questions as you want.
Or don't answer any of them...you could recommend a show instead.
Feel free to leave some recommendations even if you do answer the questions.
You can even tell us how your summer is going...assuming it's summer where you are, of course :)

Do you watch more or less TV in the summer? I watched SOOOO much TV this summer, omg. I take it as a time to try and catch up on stuff I slacked on during the normal season, but then I had my summer shows.

Do you watch a lot of the shows that air in summer? Let's see.. what aired this summer that I watched. Girl Meets World, Finding Carter, The Fosters, Graceland, The Last Ship, Teen Wolf, Orange is the New Black

Do you go out and do more actual 'real life' things in the summer? *laughs* I did SO MUCH this summer. Summers are always busy for me, both work wise and travel wise.

Do you take vacations? (during the summer or other times) Yup! Went to Florida and Chicago in May. Went to Iceland in June!!! Also had friends in visiting, both at the end of July and in the middle of August. Did lots of local traveling. And this Sunday Dora flies in and we're going to Boston next week! Also have Orlando in October. I travel all the time.. *cough*

Are you looking forward to the Fall TV schedule starting back up again? HAVEN IS BACK IN 14 DAAAAAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN NASHVILLE SOON AFTER IT!!!

I love Boston, especially at the end of the summer because the weather is just awesome. We're just going for the night (I'm on LI so it isn't that far), and can't do much more since I'm still sooo broke from my Iceland trip.

I'm lucky because my expenses are really low right now, so it let's me spend my money on plane tickets. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to travel so much. This Boston trip is only costing us gas.

My dad's a Florida CPA as well as a NY one, and we have clients down there, so that's why we went down in May. Business trip *cough*.

Ooh! Haven! I didn't realise it was back so soon.

Your summer sounds so busy! Have you at least been having fun with it?

I've never been sure what Labour Day is. I mean labour could mean birth but we already have mother's Day in March (or is it May over there?) or it could mean work/workers so it could be a Day for workers to do more/less work or it could mean a political party but again, that seems wrong because Democrats/Republicans not Conservatives/Labour/Liberal Democrats(/Green/UKIP/SNP/Monster Raving Looney Party/etc). And what's the white shoes thing?

Do you watch more or less TV in the summer?
I usually use the summer to catch up on things that I have meant to watch or have wanted to re-watch for a while, like this summer I started rewatching Stargate SG1 and last summer I rewatched Stargate Atlantis. Saying that I haven't watched as much as usual this year.

Do you watch a lot of the shows that air in summer?
Not particularly. I'm never really sure which shows are showing when I just watch things that come on. That said I usually have a couple of shows I'm following- this summer I intended to watch Rizzoli and Isles and Defiance - but I actually haven't and am going to watch them when they get screened over here in the UK (aka starting in the next month).

Do you go out and do more actual 'real life' things in the summer?
Nope.

Do you take vacations? (during the summer or other times)
I sometimes take trips to see family members. This summer I went to Norfolk to celebrate my Great Aunt's 90th birthday. I was the youngest person there by about 30 years (my Mum was there too).

Are you looking forward to the Fall TV schedule starting back up again?
I'm looking forward to certain shows, like Sleepy Hollow, coming back.

We have an August bank holiday which is probably the same. Its about when the kids go back to school in parts of the UK. So I guess its like that. :)

Re the "no white clothing/shoes after Labour Day" thing: AFAIK, there isn't one single explanation. However, the general consensus is that, back in the late 1800s - early 1900s, rich people would wear white because of the heat. By the time fall would come around, they would change their clothing to darker hues. Once Labour Day became the unofficial signal that summer was over, the idea of wearing white clothing/shoes was seen as tacky.

It's one of those fashion things that was passed from generation to generation. Nowadays, though, people wear whatever they want.

(Oh, dang, I forgot about Sleepy Hollow!)

Do you watch more or less TV in the summer?

IMHO, I watch about the same. Usually, summertime is when I catch up with shows I've fallen behind. So, even if I don't watch anything that's premiering/airing in the summer, I'm still tuning in. There have been years, though, when I watch less TV because I'm traveling.

Do you watch a lot of the shows that air in summer?

I'd say I barely watch a third of the new shows and even less of the returning shows. This year, for example, I watched True Blood (solely because it was the series finale). Out of everything that's new this year, I've only watched 5 (Power, Extant, The Leftovers, The Divide, The Strain).

Do you go out and do more actual 'real life' things in the summer?

Not in the daytime. Well, other than going to work, of course. It's simply too hot for me to be out and about. I'm not really an outdoorsy person either so, other than going to the occasional movie or a quick trip to the mall, I'm happily hermitting at home. :P

Do you take vacations? (during the summer or other times)

I do take vacations, sometimes in the summer. For the most part, I time my vacations based on out-of-state concerts I'd like to attend, small fandom conventions, and hangouts with friends who live elsewhere. So they are really spread out throughout the year and might look like they're on really random times (like mid-April, early September, late October, for example).

Are you looking forward to the Fall TV schedule starting back up again?

Yes! I can't wait to see what's next for The Blacklist, Revenge, American Horror Story, The Vampire Diaries, Elementary...

Do you watch more or less TV in the summer?

Less, since my current shows are on break.

Do you watch a lot of the shows that air in summer?

I can't keep track what airs when. (My TV doesn't work so I can never watch things in real time anyway. I have to wait until they appear on the intertubes!

Do you go out and do more actual 'real life' things in the summer?

I don't have a life.

Do you take vacations? (during the summer or other times)

I've been unemployed/under-employed for 7 miserable years. I can barely afford to keep the internet going.

So that would be a "No."

Are you looking forward to the Fall TV schedule starting back up again?

Yes and no. Yes because I miss my shows! No, because it's such a pain to wait for things to come online.
