Murder in the First

On August 11th Murder in the First finished its 10 episode first season.*
I watched this show and kept up with it in a pretty timely manner and it was enjoyable for the most part, particularly for a summer show.
The actors were good, but in a lot of ways the story was extremely predictable and by the end I wasn't really surprised by the outcome at all.
Anyone else watch this show or try watching it?
Any thoughts?
Interesting review on the Season Finale here…
*still no word if there will be a second season.

I think it needed a lot more episodes and a bit more rhythm. It could have been really interesting if it had a full length season and went into way more depth with the court case and things from the investigation having to be covered up or explained away and stuff. But for a ten episode season there were a couple of episodes early on when just nothing happened, and what was the point of the guy's wife dying when he had no time really to deal with it, or for it to matter to the plot. And also the woman shooting that guy who had a knife? I suppose they vaguely tried to discredit her at trial because she shot someone, but again it didn't have any drama to it.
And what was with all the terrible virtual reality, which also wasn't connected to anything at all. It was like being back in the eighties suddenly.
On the other hand I loved the two main cops and surprised myself by really enjoying their kissing. I wish they hadn't made his wife so recently dead so that they could have done a proper falling in love with your partner even though they're your partner and that's a bit weird storyline.

Yes, you're right. The show lacked a lot of impact for some reason.
Yeah I know. They could have done more with that and how it impacted him and the way he dealt with the case, but they really didn't use it. They could have cut it out and nothing would have changed.
I'm not sure why this didn't have much drama or impact to it. It should have and I think it could have, but it fell short.
eh…I have no idea.
I liked the main cops too and even that kiss and tease of something more in time. But I think you're right in that she show could have benefited by having more episodes.

The murder plot, though... yeah. I actually expected the dickish suspect who was so massively suspicious to end up being innocent, because he was so massively suspicious from the start.
I had no idea the series was only 10 eps long and was caught totally by surprise by the sudden ending. Once I realized that this was it, I was also disappointed by how predictable the entire season plot had been, and by how quickly and neatly everything was wrapped up in the end.
Actually, since I didn't know until the evry end of the ep that the season was already over, I expected the cops to find out that Blunt actually had nothing to do with the death of his father, and have to spend the rest of the season having to prove his innocence of the crime he'd no doubt actually be convicted of and setting him free! Now that would have been an original twist...
The two main cops (and also their lieutenant) work very well for me; I like them both and hope we get to see more of them. Agree on the dead wife, there wasn't enough time to actually develop that plot anymore after the first few eps; I did think it was well-handled there, though.
I think that the makers of the show expected the season to be longer than 10 eps, too, and were forced to cut the plot short; maybe it would have been less predictable otherwise. Of course, it might also just have been a more extended version of the plot we did get.

I'd probably watch another season if they made it - mostly for the supporting cast, if I'm honest - but I would also be totally fine with it not being renewed. I am zero percent interested in the next bit of Terry's and Hildy's lives.
