Re: Fanworks Thread
Also I'm so late to this post it's not even funny. We watched season 2 right when it aired and I meant to participate in the discussion here and then I forgot, oops.2x01: Thirsty Bird
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
Piper really isn't at the top of my list.
Still a good episode though.
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
Though I was a bit torn between "I want to go baaack" to "I want to know everything about these characters too". :D
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
Though I guess they had to do something to keep Piper in jail and in the story. In the book (and in life) that's the point (after that trial) that Piper is released.
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
In the book I don't think she had ever actually met the big dealer, so she really didn't have anything to lie about, or to help with...I read it after I watched the first season.
It's good, though I think the show is better and more interesting in a lot of ways.
It also got me to read a couple of other books on women's lives in prison, which were also interesting.
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
A World Apart: Woman, Prison and Life Behind Bars by Christina Rathbone
Random Family by Adrian Nicole LeBlanc - this one isn't as much about life inside prison but more on the generations of families in and out of prison. It reminds me a little of the situation with Daya and her mother.
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
Re: 2x01: Thirsty Bird
I liked the flashbacks to Piper's childhood, being the goody-goody but learning to lie.
It was so strange being away from the prison and prison "family" we know. It made me feel disoriented, like Piper. And I'm glad Pennsatucky made it!
2x02: Looks Blue, Tastes Red
Re: 2x02: Looks Blue, Tastes Red
It was so sad too.
I like getting to see how smart she really is, and how she got into the situation that she's in now.
I really like Taystee.
Re: 2x02: Looks Blue, Tastes Red
Re: 2x02: Looks Blue, Tastes Red
Re: 2x02: Looks Blue, Tastes Red
Great ensemble episode. I found myself thinking, "Good for you!" re: Pennsatucky getting her new teeth, despite what she tried to do to Piper. And that little conversation between her cronies was nice.
The job fair was a treat and offered some great moments for a bunch of characters, especially during the resume bit. I like that Taystee could still celebrate over the $10 for her account. And the Taystee-ness generally! I'd read about Vee a bit before watching but didn't realize she'd be coming to the prison (though I should have been able to figure that out).
Red's son was cool to see. It's coming down on all sides for her now. The old lady inmates were fun; I'd never thought about what it must be like for older women in prison.
2x03: Hugs Can Be Deceiving
Re: 2x03: Hugs Can Be Deceiving
The back story on Suzanne was sad.
I hate how Vee is manipulating her, but at the same time it's nice that someone is at least pretending to care about her.
I liked seeing that it was Suzanne that punched out Piper, making her fight with the other inmate look like a fair one, though that wasn't her intention at all.
Re: 2x03: Hugs Can Be Deceiving
Re: 2x03: Hugs Can Be Deceiving
Vee and Red I did not see coming either.
Oh, Brook, you're the new Piper!
2x04: A Whole Other Hole
Re: 2x04: A Whole Other Hole
I hate the how Vee is creating cracks in the order of things here. Though it makes for great story. She's such a trouble maker and I feel so bad for Poussey, who is just so nice.
Piper is turning really mean this season, not that I blame her, but damn. She really did try to pimp a girl out for a blanket. Then again Soso is pretty annoying. Then again she's not all that different from how Piper was when she first got to prison.
Re: 2x04: A Whole Other Hole
Agreed!!! When they showed the beginning with her calling that company because her shoes didn't arrive? I was sure she was in for something like Fraud...
but being a crazy stalker... unexpected.
I've always been surprised that she was given so much freedom, and I'm kinda glad they explored that a little bit. Makes me wonder if it comes in some other way this season.
Re: 2x04: A Whole Other Hole
Me too, and I figured it must have been because her crime must have been something that could be considered non-threatening to the public, but wow, it's even more surprising now.
And besides her whole obsession/delusion over Christopher, she has always seemed so friendly and stable.
Re: 2x04: A Whole Other Hole
I suppose she's pretty harmless if she's not obsessing over someone.
Re: 2x04: A Whole Other Hole
the whole pee hole thing was just hilarious.
Re: 2x04: A Whole Other Hole
Re: 2x04: A Whole Other Hole
Half the time I think Vee means what she says, or she both means it AND is manipulative.
Piper hasn't changed much, as Nicky says. She's just doing the scary thing now, which seems not to be working much! I liked the scene between her and Red.
Speaking of, is Red seriously plotting an escape?!
Taystee and Poussey: sadface.
2x05: Low Self Esteem City
Re: 2x05: Low Self Esteem City
I was kind of hoping that she had killed that dude that beat her, but of course that was unlikely considering the whole minimum security prison thing. I'm glad he got his in the end. You don't fuck with the Orishas ;)
Cupoto on bass in a band was kind of cute, and it's sad that he actually seems to care about the prisoners. Sad because it doesn't seem to matter, because he still can't get things done. He's still kind of creepy though.
Vee continues to claw her way to power. This doesn't seem like it's going to end well.
Also Baby Daddy guard is not very subtle with his attentions toward and protection of Daya. Though I love his good intentions. I can't see that ending well either.
Re: 2x05: Low Self Esteem City
2x06: You Also Have a Pizza
Re: 2x06: You Also Have a Pizza
And what the hell Larry????!!!
Re: 2x06: You Also Have a Pizza
AND YES, WTH LARRY
2x07: Comic Sans
Re: 2x07: Comic Sans
This time we got background on Cindy, which was sad and a little interesting.
We have the girls pushing Bennett too far and him in turning being a total ass.
Vee continues to shake things up and is building her contraband ring while Red is doing her own new thing with the greenhouse bringing in benign but useful/fun things in.
And that poor older woman getting basically kicked to the curb on "compassionate release".
This was kind of an extra downer of an episode!
Re: 2x07: Comic Sans
2x08: Appropriately Sized Pots
Re: 2x08: Appropriately Sized Pots
She really was a bank robber and her men really did keep dying on her (at least 2 of them did anyways).
And Susan was fired!
OMG!!!! Pornstache!!! He's such a horrible person, but entertaining.
I can't see this being good for Daya and Bennett though.
I can't see this being a good thing for Red either, or any of the inmates really.
Re: 2x08: Appropriately Sized Pots
Re: 2x08: Appropriately Sized Pots
2x09: 40 OZ of Furlough
Re: 2x09: 40 OZ of Furlough
Yet, it's Bennett who starts going all crazy on everyone.
Oh man I wish he had listened to Daya and waited until to spill that news, and seriously, eventually they'll do a paternity test and it will prove not to me Pornstache's, right?
Piper is on furlough and it looks like Red's place back home is out of business and her family has been lying to her.
I really liked seeing the background stuff between Vee and Red too.
Re: 2x09: 40 OZ of Furlough
Re: 2x09: 40 OZ of Furlough
Okay, just checked online, some tests will detect for 3 or 4 days after alcohol is consumed, but standard tests won't. So I guess it depends on what kind of tests they use and how much they really care about legal drugs like alcohol and how big their budget is for these tests.
Re: 2x09: 40 OZ of Furlough
Re: 2x09: 40 OZ of Furlough
It was on the list of nonos, but then they aren't supposed to drink it in prison either, and they do that periodically.
Also, I'm obviously trying to answer without being spoilery since I finished the season by the second day ;)
2x10: Little Mustachioed Shit
Re: 2x10: Little Mustachioed Shit
That was sad about Piper lying to Red about her business back home, but I'm not sure how much good the truth would have done either.
Vee is shaping up to be pretty horrible. Poor Poussey. And that whole picking on Rosa thing too? What the hell? People are getting extra mean.
Re: 2x10: Little Mustachioed Shit
I feel so bad for Poussey, she's losing everything.
2x11: Take a Break from Your Values
Re: 2x11: Take a Break from Your Values
Feelings jar. Piper is going to be transferred.
Piper probably did the right thing lying on the stand because while Alex is out, the head dealer guy is too and he's not happy and she's in danger.
Big Boo all alone.
And that woman was going to kill Vee, but shanked the wrong woman!!!???? Who did she get?
Oh and Polly and Larry??? Yeah, I'm sure that's going to work out well.
So much going on right now and only two more episodes!!!
Re: 2x11: Take a Break from Your Values
Why would they transfer Piper after we've all gotten so invested in all the characters at litchfield? This sucks!
The only other person I can think of whose hair was big like that at the moment was Watson. ;_;
Re: 2x11: Take a Break from Your Values
2x12: It Was The Change
Re: 2x12: It Was The Change
I can't believe that it doesn't occur to either Bennett or Daya that maybe a paternity test might be ordered if child support from Pornstache is ever asked for. Seriously. Not that it seems to occur to her mom either.
The storm was some crazy shit.
I'm glad that Poussey and Taystee seem to have made up though. I love their friendship.
Re: 2x12: It Was The Change
step one: pick a person to kill
Step two: Kill THAT person
HOLY SHIT VEE HAD RJ KILLED AND RED, OMGG.
Re: 2x12: It Was The Change
2x13: We Have Manners. We're Polite.
Re: 2x13: We Have Manners. We're Polite.
Vee was a horrible person. Taking Suzanne under her wing like that, just to turn around and fuck her over. Master manipulator, for sure.
Rosa, having only a little while left and Morello giving her that out like that so she didn't have to die in prison, was pretty cool. Rosa hitting Vee with the van was even cooler..
I kind of feel bad for Caputo with all this shit crashing down on him with him only in charge for two days, especially with Bennett's poorly timed confession.
And Piper turning Alex in, so she'd end up back in prison? Damn.
This was a great season. I can't believe I binge watched it in like less than 32 hours.
Re: 2x13: We Have Manners. We're Polite.
Friggen hated Vee for how she was manipulating everyone. Poussey is one of my favorites and she was messing with my girl!!! I was yelling for Rosa to hit her with the van and cheered when she swerved for it. Bitch!
I liked how we got to center on a different group this season. Because i love learning about everyone's backstory.
Poor Bennett, trying to do the right thing and Caputo not having any part of it. I wonder if he tells Daya.
Re: 2x13: We Have Manners. We're Polite.
I hated Vee too, but she was a kind of a great villain type of person for the season and I cheered too when Rosa hit her. That made me so crazy happy.
I think they did the almost getting transferred thing to show how that sort of thing effects people (especially women with families) in prison, because sadly that sort of thing happens a lot.
Getting everyone's backstory was great and there is still so much to learn and that's also awesome because we'll get more of that in the next season!
I know, he really did try. Though it was at the worst possible time really. Not, that there is really ever a good time for that.
