Regarding Cody, in my reading, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and I didn't think Cody had any ulterior motives behind bringing the liquor despite Norma's warnings and Cody's own knowledge of Norman's blackouts. I think Cody really is in part just a defiant teenager AND the child of an alcoholic, meaning she hasn't got the best relationship with alcohol either. I think she likes to push Norman's boundaries and see him loosen up, and unfortunately safety is not a chief concern in those moments. I also don't believe she was hoping Norman was going to help her with her dad in some fashion; she seemed genuinely not to want Norman to have come in that one day and surprised when her dad came in and they had to hide. I believe her when she said previously that she'd be 18 soon and would simply leave. I also believe that she loved it when Norman said SHE made HIM feel safe, and that might be part of why she encourages him to take risks. Yet when Norman yells at her about being her plaything, I don't think he's just defending Emma; I think he's felt like that too (and maybe there's some Bradley baggage in there too).
I thought it was interesting the perception Cody had of Norman's relationship with Emma. When Cody goes to tell her about his blackouts, she says it's clear he trusts her, but Emma's been feeling shut out from the Bates, especially as far as what's been happening with Dylan. Later, when Norman learns Cody's the one who told Emma, he says that's as good as telling his mom. More and more Emma's feeling like or becoming some younger version of Norma for him; when Norman comforts her after the swimming hole incident, it's very reminiscent of how he's comforted Norma in the past. I've thought of this before given the way Emma dresses, too, with the sweaters and pins and demure dresses/skirts.
Another "Alex"/Norma scene! He did look nice in a suit, hm? Interesting contrast between Romero, who says there's no way Norma will get the council seat, and George, who gives her that "bring yourself, you're awesome" speech. Gee, I wonder who's full of crap (even though Norma got the seat, someone was more honest when it came to noting how political an issue it was).
Oh Dylan, I am concerned. But also, at this point (because while it's only been a few days, narrative time feels longer, I guess), your whining about your family not caring about you is not winning any sympathy from me. Or, it will lose it.
Did they telegraph that Norman was not going to get his license enough?
