I believe the intention is that the season is supposed to be a mystery that needs to be solved/unraveled. It has similarities to season one has but instead of the audience being "in the know" we are almost as clueless as the cursed residents of the new Storybrooke. I'm glad they kept their memories this time. I was really worried about that.
I don't think Ginny's pregnancy had anything to do with the decision. They could have written that in no matter the location, they just needed the time jump. And honestly they needed the time jump anyways. Henry's like up to Emma's shoulders now, and his voice! He's just getting so grown-up and they really needed to jump ahead just for that really.
Also they already dropped the hint that Snow wanted a baby back in the Echo Cave scene in 3A and from what I understand the writers were not aware of Ginny's pregnancy at the time that was scripted.
I really liked how they played the before and after Emma too :)
