Lily Gladstone and Kali Reis Make Emmys History as First Indigenous Women Nominated for Acting
On Wednesday, Gladstone and Reis received nominations in the supporting actress in a limited series category for their roles in Hulu’s Under the Bridge and HBO/Max’s True Detective: Night Country. This major recognition marks the first time Indigenous women have been nominated for acting Emmys, and they are only the second and third Indigenous actors ever to be recognized in the 76-year history of the television awards.

‘Baby Reindeer’ Star Nava Mau On Making Emmy History With Supporting Actress Nomination
Speaking to Deadline soon after her nomination, Mau laughed that she had been crying for 45 minutes with “overwhelming joy.”
“For trans actors we just don’t get a lot of opportunities to develop our craft, grow as artists, and to be recognized for all that we are and all that we can be,” she said.

Griselda's Sofía Vergara Makes History With 2024 Emmy Nomination
With this recognition, Vergara—who is up for Lead Actress in a Limited Series [...]—makes history as the first Latina to receive a nomination in this category. She previously received four Emmy nods for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series for her work in Modern Family.
“Wow. Griselda was my first dramatic role ever, and it took us 15 years to bring her to life," Vergara said in a statement to E! News. "I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who was a part of this series."

‘Shogun’ Makes History With 25 Emmy Nominations
Although the winners won’t be unveiled until September, the nods are already a big achievement for FX and parent company Disney for a pricey series that took nearly 10 years to bring to fruition and once looked like a very uncertain bet. It’s also a major moment for Asian representation and non-English-language television. Following Netflix’s Korean sensation Squid Game in 2022, Shogun is just the second majority non-English-language series to be nominated in the outstanding drama series category.
