I thought this was the best episode yet!!!! I loved everyone and the plot was really interesting!!!

Skye and ward were great, but YAY MORE MAY as well :D

It was definitely an interesting episode. Looks like next week will be even more interesting as it seems Skye's going to be busted as an infiltrater. Now the question: Does Joss write her off (either by having Coulson/SHIELD kill her or imprison her forever) or does Joss have some twist that allows Skye to stick around?

I don't think she'll be written off. I'm sure she's the main character for a reason.

Unless there's some huge twist next week, I don't see how Coulson (or Fury for that matter who will probably be pissed that Coulson allowed an enemy into S.H.I.E.L.D., unwittingly, or not) somehow doesn't show her to a dark, dank SHIELD prison cell for the rest of her life, or even let her walk off the heliocarrier with her life.

The only think I can possibly think of is that all the hints Joss and his team have been dropping about Coulson possibly being an LMD is setting up for a twist that it's Skye that's the LMD and the real Skye is being held captive somewhere hooked up to it.

I don't know why they would do that? She hasn't actually done anything, that we've been shown to make her a traitor. I guess it depends on the episode

Ward has grown on me a lot actually. The only ones that haven't grown on me anymore than the pilot are fitzsimmons, but i like them ok.

THIS WAS THE BEST EPISODE SO FAR. I'm so glad they did a character-intensive episode! Plot shmot I WANT CHARACTERS SAYING MEANINGFUL THINGS TO EACH OTHER AND THIS EPISODE DELIVERED.

- Omg I am best-friend-shipping Fitz and Simmons SO HARD right now. I'm just all jkdlfds *hearts in eyes* over them being dorks all through school and training together and I wonder how long they've known each other and been friends?? The scene with Simmons standing at the platform and Fitz stuck in the lab screaming for her not to do it omg ;___; My emotions.

- Ward is too hard on LIFE ok. That is how he rolls. lol. I don't think he's really being too hard on Skye cause really she's getting off kinda easy with the whole lying thing. He'll get over it anyway. He's already pretty much over it, they had that nice conversation in the briefing room and I think he just wants her to sweat for a while.

- MAY/COULSON SHIPPING IT FOREVER. SHIELD PARENTS.

- I like that the case of the week was mostly just an excuse to have team bonding! I've been wanting an episode like this and YAY I GOT IT. I feel like I know everyone so much better now.

- THIS WAS SUCH A GREAT EPISODE! 9/10! Docking a point for Ward's zoolander face as he skydived lmao.

I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING!!! I loved having a more relationship focused episode, and even though i like them, a less ward & skye focused ep. Can't wait for next week and i'm REALLY looking forward to the different team ups, so its not always ward/skye and fitzsimmons but also ward/fitz and skye/may and stuff. I HOPE THE RATINGS PICKED UP A LITTLE TOO. a girl can dream, right?

May and Coulson are so the parents of the team. And Fitzsimmons are like the bickering twin little-siblings. Of course if I take this analogy to its (logical??) conclusion Ward is like the big brother who thinks he's like too cool for the rest of them and Skye is the angsty middle sibling who just kinda wants her big bro to like her.

Families rarely get on. They pick at each other and annoy each other and have a million and one things that they disagree over but, at their heart, the ideal family, despite all this, sincerely cares about each other and will have each others' back. :D

i like it when they only have minor squabbles, but seem to still enjoy each others company. It makes it more fun to me. And no one is an asshole.

Yeah that's basically what I mean. Deep seated disagreements and resentments and just really hating each other just leads to situations like Loki and we don't want that. Ugh. XD

yeah i'm not a big fan of miscommunications, or just hatred for no reason - an example probably being Lemon/Zoe on Hart of Dixie i guess (i don't mind it there but its a ridiculous feud which makes no sense and would be more fun if the had their good moments too) i'm sure there are better examples but i just...workplaces were you hate someone suck and found families are the BEST

I've been wanting an episode that was more or less a character driven episode, and pretty much got it. I loved all the character building and everything in this ep. Definitely warmed up a lot more to Fitz/Simmons and I'm still loving the Coulson/May bond.

Plus I think this episode pretty much lays to rest the 'Coulson is an LMD' theory. Now the mystery shifts to "how was he brought back from the dead."

Indeed. I held my breath when May told him to unbutton his shirt (and was amused by his little bit of shock and embarrassment), and then we see the scar. That and the Chitauri helmet were a wonderful callback to the movie, too.

LOVED it. I was waiting for the show to explore their dynamic and they did it so well!

Ward and Skye:

No, actually. I love Skye but what she did was wrong and I'm surprised everyone else forgave her so quickly.

May and Coulson:

BroTP, tbh. I know some people are shipping it and that's cool but I just like their friendship.

Case of the week:

I'm just glad the case gave us a chance for more character development. This is the way it should be, show.

Final thoughts:

Best episode so far! Ward, you have a personality, buddy! And I like it! Also, I think Simmons may be my 2nd favorite after May. Actually, no, I know she is. SHE THREW HERSELF OFF A PLANE TO SAVE THE TEAM!

I want more Skye-Simmons friendship and more moments for Ward to make fun of himself. I want more BrOTP moments for May-Coulson and Fitzsimmons. I also really want more May interaction with the younger group. She's had good stuff with Ward but I'd like to see her play off Fitzsimmons and Skye more. Oh, and I want to learn about that whole 40 seconds thing because you know there's a good story behind May's "death".

Randomly, I've heard some people mention that they think Skye might be Coulson's daughter but I don't see it. I do think Coulson knows who her parents are, but I don't think they're related. Though it would be an interesting development.

I liked this ep. Fitz+Simmons have been kinda... amusing but blah to me so far and this kind of sold me on them and their relationship. Jemma is seriously bad-ass jumping out of that plane. I wouldn't be able to do it even if it was for the best. I can't decide if I'm hoping they're BFFs forever or if somewhere down the line they retire from fieldwork, move to the English countryside to work for some lab and raise precociously intelligent children together. Their house would be so chaotic and interesting (and probably a bit untidy).

Ward and Skye... meh, whatever. I think that she probably deserves to sweat it for a while and that if he had just snapped back to treating her exactly the same then it would be a. out of character for Ward and b. indicate that he actually doesn't care one way or another. I think acting indifferent is just his way of protecting himself from caring esp when the person he kind of cares about has just proven herself utterly untrustworthy. So, yeah, I don't think he's being too hard on her.

I really like May and Coulson. I think that they kind of need the calm from the kids that is each other (I hear adult conversation is kind of important sometimes when you're surrounded by kids, if only to keep you relatively sane). I do know that I want them to be bffs forever. The Zoe and Mal of the show- they've seen a lot of crap together, they trust each other, but they do not fancy each other. Although I can't decide whether May's sad face when Coulson talked to the firefighter dude was because she knows something or because she remembers/empathises. If its the former then I'm hoping it doesn't come back to mess up their happy dynamic later.

I've liked Fitzsimmons but this episode really made me LOVE fitzsimmons and give them more sperate personalities so <3333 JEMMA. MY BABYYYY SHE LOVES SCIENCE AND JUMPED OUT OF A PLANE TO SAVE EVERYONEEE. Their friendship is lovely and i'm perfectly fine with them moving to the english countryside.

Yeah she does deserve a little bit. I'm glad he's still got the protective instinct and you know deep, deep, deep down he's got feelings. lol. and YES I think he protects himself from people.

I really need to work out which is Fitz and which is Simmons because they are still very much Fitzsimmons in my head. Although I've sort of got Jemma in my head now (which helps) and I suppose I could try an remember that Fitz means "son" as in "Fitzwilliam Darcy" (aka Mr Darcy!) so Fitz is male and Fitz in the show is male so.... actually that could work!! I'm gonna try and repeat that to myself "Fitz means male= Fitz is male!!!"

I keep noticing that the characters I sort of empathise with these days are the adults. Like, am I getting old? I'm sure I used to practically ignore the adults or not get them at all but these days I just have that same "jeez, young people are so.... tiring where're the adults" thing that I think May and Coulson (and Melissa and Chris and the Sheriff- whose name better turn out to be John or I will be so confused!!) seem to display a lot. :S I'm so old. LOL.

lol i feel this way a lot when watching Teen wolf but its not like the "kids" in this show are young either.

They kinda are. I mean Leo (Leo leo leo leo leo ... lego... ugh no brain) is awkward and geeky and kinda would like the girl to like him. Jemma is smart and wants adventure and excitable. Skye is possibly unrealistically idealistic and torn between wanting to change the world and wanting to understand the world and wanting to know who she is and wanting her team to like her (even if they're philosophies go against theirs) and wanting to prove herself. Ward wants to prove himself and wants to hide behind like his image and wants to be independant and not tied down but still wants to be respected and have authority.

May and Coulson at least know, roughly, what they stand for and who they (in general) are even if that's been shaken by events. They don't have to talk all the time or strive to make themseves a space or angst over how people will perceive them because they've kind of moved past them. They make their own space. They don't stand too much on ceremony. They understand the system enough to know what they can and cannot and should and should not do. They have respect because they've already earned it and they show that in the way that they're not anxious about it. Does that make sense?

Incidentally I think I'm more the first than the second but I wonder if the second group are just better at hiding where they intersect with the first group/.

The adults, they are already grown they have different things to deal with than who they are.

Yeah I think the main difference between being a kid and being an adult is that, as a rule, adults don't overly much care about other people's opinions of them (if they think they're doing the right thing). They're more settled (but no necessarily unshakable). I live to be disproved of this notion which I'm sure is most likely wrong. LOL.

I do hope Coulson and May stay bffs though. Weather the storm and all that.

This was the best episode yet! I have been waiting all season to see some kind of real emotional connection between these characters, and this episode delivered in spades. FitzSimmons! MayCoulson! It was the best.

I'm so glad I was pointed to this comm, and am glad to be able to just Happy Reverse Dogpile and agree with all the love.

One thing that really stood out for me was the fact that the episode's plot was actually pretty elegant in terms of sophistication. No, it's not a Bad Guy - it's Bad Luck. No, they can't save the guy, and that's how it rolls too often - and they can use that to help us see more of Coulson.

And of course, there were a few just cheerfully evil twists: no, the 'save her at the last minute' didn't work, the mouse died - no, wait, the mouse lived - but, oh, the horrible timing, she's dropped from the plane and he can't do anything, OMG you killed her, no, wait - they're actually going to play with make-believe physics and rescue her, YAAAAY!

That, plus the character building that everyone else has mentioned, and it's just a deliciously chewy delight.

:D i am mostly sticking to people that enjoy the show because i just don't have any effort for people who don't.

I didn't really think about that - it was bad luck. :(

Working with Fitz almost gave Ward the ability to understand people, even for a moment or two, and am actual personality!!

Ok now that I've actually seen all of it: I liked it. It was useful splitting up fitz simmons and mixing them up with different partners for the day. It might have been more interesting to have May working with people too rather than being quiet and non-committal. While her silence was amusing while she was taichi-ing it wasn't exactly helpful on getting a read on her character. I keep wondering if she's like deeply traumatised and unable to express emotions beside vague annoyance amd competence.

Coulson's questions and need for answers and quiet despair is getting interesting. As in an interesting plot not that I like his despair. The need to find out what happened to himself and why tahiti is a "magical" place and why he isn't allowed access to his own medical file is seriously warring with his desire to trust the system. That the system abandoned his people to die and LIED to him about it is not helping. I can't really see him breaking away from SHIELD but I can see him pushing until he finds out in a completely traumatising way. I hope it doesn't but I honestly think thats where it's heading. That the need for personal information v. The need to belong is also what is causing Skye grief is an interest in parallel esp with Coulson and May taking the role in Skye's life that, I presume, Fury and Hill have taken in Coulson's life (that of knowing what is best for the person, hopefully from a protective urge not a keeping him working like a good little bee) could result in a fertile source of inter and intra personal drama later. Hopefully without destroying the whole team in the process.

I think it's getting better. Which can only be of the good. Now of course it needs a stronger sense of who the Big Bad is. Unless SHIELD and its secrets are.

Loved ass - kicking May, also loved the bit of depth to Ward. Fitz and Simmions continue to be cute and adorable and loved Jemma talking to her dad (even if we only heard the beginning of a one - sided voice conversation).

But.. was anybody else uncomfortable with the "Did I fall asleep" line? Or does one have to have watched Whedon's previous shows to be unsettled by it?

FWIW, Joss wasn't the writer on last night's episode, and I think Joss did write the Angel ep, so that might have something to do with it.

Oh man I wasn't even expecting her to get shot let alone so very dangerously. I kept expecting her super sekret ~~slayer~~ 084 powers to kick in and like heal her but they didn't. They still might of course. Although part of me says Joss would totally kill her I sort of don't think they will because of all the mystery surrounding her.

And Mike, bb. He's in need of a hug. Or at least that thing out of his head. I take it that leg thing at the end was meant to impart something for those in the know. I am not in the know. The name looked vaguely familiar but not enough to place. *shrug*

Every main character, except for Coulson is fair game, given they're all original characters to the Marvel Live Action Universe (which is what I'm calling the MCU now given we have the Interconnected MCU [Excluding X-Men, Spidey and FF4 as all the film rights to them and their associated characters are all tied into other studios and not Marvel/Disney], SHIELD, and the rumored Agent Carter series for ABC possibly next fall and DareDevil in production for Netflix next year) and not from the comics proper(and even Coulson's not immune given he was 'killed off' in Avengers).

(The name at on the leg 'Deathlok' is also the name of a character in the comics, so I would presume that this is that character's 'origin' story in the Marvel Live Action Universe.)

Oh I don't mean they wouldn't kill her or any of the others just that, with all the work that they've put in on her mysterious origins and the fact that it feels like an arc that still has a heap to play through, it doesn't feel like they would kill her right now. Narratively it doesn't seem very logical. She could however end up in cryo or something for an extended period and be essentially dead for the characters only to come back later.

I agree that it seems unlikely they'd kill her off now considering how much they've invested in her "mysterious past" and how much they've highlighted, repeatedly, how much she means to Coulson.

I'm more interested in the tension between May/Ward -- I know TPTB are going to break them up and I DON'T WANT THEM TO *cries*

And Ward will definitely get hurt in the process, I'm not sure about May in terms of whether she is developing feels for Ward too. I hope that they let this play out for a while yet before ending it.

OMG!!!! I just finally caught up!!!!

I didn't see that ending coming at all!

I know, I find myself once again cursing at Joss.

And now we have to wait until APRIL while ABC promots Captain America 2 and burns off whatever spring series they have (or Dancing with the Stars, I'm not sure which).

Ward going against orders and killing the guy that the thought was the Clairvoyant because he threatened Skye was pretty intense. And everyone suspect everyone else and Skye figuring out that the Clairvoyant is a high ranking SHIELD agent with access to their files and not a psychic was pretty cool too.

So is that woman agent there at the end the Clairvoyant or just working for the Clairvoyant or something else? I am really looking forward to more episodes. I really hope this gets renewed!

I suspect that the real Clairvoyant will be revealed in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier". Which is out this weekend, YAY.

That makes sense. I'm so looking forward to that, though sadly I won't be able to see it until it hits DVD most likely. I suspect I'll be very spoiled for it by then.

I really enjoyed this ep although in it a few places it was a bit weird/jarring after seeing The Winter Soldier. There were a few places where I could say "oh that'll be setting up X".

I liked Skye becoming an agent although it seemed a bit rushed. When has she been sitting all these tests? Ward shooting that guy... I fully believe that he wasn't working for anyone just being overly emotional/protective. Hand diverting the bus right after Fitz clipped that line... is that a sign that May was working with/for her or a coincidence? As for May, who is she working for? I can think of several option but since some of them relate to the movie I'm gonna stay stum. :D
