Name Beer Good

What TV have you watched this week? Binged Stranger Things 2, started on The Good Place season 2, continued loving Better Things, gave Big Mouth a half-hearted shot

Which character would you like to see in a guest appearance on another show? I'm not sure it would be a good idea to put Eleanor from The Good Place in a room with Rebecca from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but it would certainly be entertaining.

Would you ever go on a reality show? No, but I would like to produce one. Here's the pitch:
1. We take 12 narcissistic assholes of various backgrounds and lock them in a house.
2. The end. Kidding! No, we tell them they're being filmed for the biggest reality show in history, broadcast on prime time, and every week we "vote" one out depending on how much they've degraded themselves over the week. The out-votee is sequestered in a hotel with no access to TV.
3. We don't actually film them, let alone broadcast it.
4. After 12 weeks we let them out, then follow them with hidden cameras as they try to capitalize on their supposed fame until they realize they're just a bunch of broke nobodies. We then give them proper jobs and counseling until they're ready to become useful members of society.

I'm actually still not completely sold on Stranger Things. It's a very slick, well-made TV series that does a lot of things right, and it's very bingeable. At the same time, it bugs me just a little bit how it's absolutely shameless about its nostalgia porn. It's a very focus-grouped show with everything perfectly designed to be Just Right, and after watching both that and the new IT movie, part of me - not all of me, but part of me - started longing for actual, trashier 80s VHS movies with cheap special effects and bad acting. But, y'know, I still watched all of s2 in two long sittings, because it is good.

Mwahaha! I love your version of a reality show!
highlander_ii: The Prestige - we need to steal Borden's act... from M15M ([m15m] steal Borden's act)

:) Thanks!

They did a similar idea in Britain a few months ago, but the more the merrier!

Ha! Eleanor and Rebecca would indeed be a potentially horrifying yet hilarious matchup.

You're assuming they all survive the week ;) And very importantly we absolutely do not let any of them run for office.

That would actually be interesting, since both can sing.

And agreed on the reality series...although it sounds more like a social psychology experiment than a reality show. (Even though a lot of reality series are amateurish social psychology experiments.)

Yes, I was thinking of that too, re: the singing. Of course, they could also go the route where Veronica Mars works as a private detective for the Whitefeather group.

My thought exactly!

Just imagine all the inventive non-cursing!

And very importantly we absolutely do not let any of them run for office.

Well, look at it this way, they couldn't do any worse...
