Returning Show: Haven

HAVEN Returns on Thursday September 11th

Syfy's one-hour drama series Haven, starring Emily Rose (Jericho, Brothers and Sisters) is based on the novella The Colorado Kid from renowned author Stephen King. The series follows the shrewd and confident FBI agent Audrey Parker (Rose) as she arrives in the small town of Haven, Maine on a routine case. Before long, her natural curiosity lands her in the epicenter of activity in this curious enclave, which turns out to be a longtime refuge for people that are affected by a range of supernatural afflictions. The truth about Audrey's mysterious past (which she can't fully remember) starts to come out as well.

How to do spoiler text on DW:

Use white text. Remember to include beginning/closing brackets and/or other demarcations, so people will know there's a spoiler there, not just a bunch of random white space.

[Spoiler:your spoilery text]

produces this: [Spoiler:your spoilery text]

DW just ate my comment. WHY??!?! Is it trying to be LJ?

Is season 4 on netflix now? I stalled sometime mid-season 4 and keep meaning to pick it back up.

I had a long rambly comment about Duke and Nathan and Audrey, about how they're a nicely balanced trio and no one is the trite sidekick 2-dimensional character. I think I called Duke a plucky lady? I can't remember now. Damnit.

I liked Jordan. Then [Spoiler:I didn't like Jordan. Then I started to like her again and BAM!!].... damnit show!

OMG NO! I don't think I will cope well if the internet falls apart. (haha!)

To be fair, there were several characters going OTT in early season 4, so Jordan wasn't alone.

Ok, now that I'm on a proper computer and not my cellphone, I can make some more coherent thoughts. *nods*

My favorites are Duke and Nathan. Nathan because he is a big woobie and I just wanna smush his face, and Duke because he tries so hard to pretend he doesn't care when he DOES!

My favorite episodes.

1x08: Ain't no Sunshine. [Spoiler:Because this one was the one where Nathan realized he can feel Audrey's touch!!!]
2x06: Audrey Parker's Day off. Because I'm a sucker for groundhog day episodes.
2x13: Silent Night.
3x06: Real Estate. Halloween ep!!
3x09: Sarah. Oh Nathan, Nathan, Nathan.
4x10: The Trouble With Troubles. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS. Haven's the safest town in Maine, dontcha know.

There are more, but these are my favorites among the favorites.

I love this cast to PIECES. They are all SPAZZES!

Same with Jordan. [Spoiler:They sacrificed her for Wade's downfall and I feel like she was an important character. But she was standing in the way of what Nathan needed to do, so I can kinda see it. Bah.]
mfirefly10: (Haven = giving me Duke/Audrey FEELS)

[personal profile] mfirefly10 2014-09-09 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Haven quite a bit. Don't remember exactly when I started watching it, but I watched seasons 3 and 4 live. Well, for the most part. I fell behind sometimes.

However, I have one major issue with the show that keeps me from really loving it. I hate that they [Spoiler:kill off or get rid of every non-Audrey female character. EVERY SINGLE ONE.]

I'll watch season 5 regardless since it's the last season but I'd be more excited about it if [Spoiler:Jennifer turns out to NOT be dead/gets resurrected. I loved her and I need at least ONE non-Audrey lady to survive and stick around for the long haul. JUST ONE! Is that so much to ask, show?]

Audrey is my favorite character and my main reason for watching. I'm also very fond of Duke and most of the ladies they've introduced over the years. I go back and forth with Nathan. I thought he was precious in the first two seasons but he began to annoy me in season 3 and the writers took him WAY ooc in season 4. SO...we'll see how season 5 goes...

Not sure about favorite episodes...like everyone else, I ADORED Audrey Parker's Day Off, Sarah and The Trouble With Troubles. The Magic Hour two-parter was also pretty great.

[Spoiler:I really really really hope Jennifer isn't dead because she was SO GOOD for Duke and I really like her. I was REALLY sad when it was revealed that Audra had killed Claire. I really liked Claire.

The lack of female characters is a thing most shows suffer, though. I really wish it would change.

[Spoiler:Jennifer was GREAT for Duke and she fit in really well with the entire ensemble. Plus, there was that theory that she was related to Audrey somehow because of her connection to the barn and...idk...it just seemed like she was the perfect one to keep around. Though I felt the same about Claire the season before. She could've helped with cases and everything!

Honestly, I'd rather the show just not introduce new female characters than keep killing them off. It's the same issue I had with Supernatural back when I actually watched it, though Haven does better in that department since Audrey is the main character.

I haven't watched much SPN, but I have noticed the high turnover rates. One of the things I liked about Legend of the Seeker was that the main cast was pretty constant.

HAHA, I MENTION SEEKER BEFORE I LOOK AT YOUR ICON!!!
mfirefly10: (Revolution - Rachel is mah favorite)

[personal profile] mfirefly10 2014-09-11 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well, to be fair, I think the only real main characters on SPN are the brothers so they haven't been inconsistent on that front. But I always prefer it when shows keep the majority of their main cast members for most of their run.

OH, Seeker...WHY did we only get two seasons with you? And only ONE with Cara? :(
I know the books series exits but it just didn't sound like it would be as enjoyable so I haven't bothered with it yet. And there's fanfic.

Alls I gotta say, is that if you leave out all the Denna BS in Wizard's First Rule, it is one of my FAVORITE books. It is SUPER shippy and there are spirit houses and apples are sexy and Kahlan is badass! That being said, it took me 8 months to read Stone of Tears because holy hell that book. There were some good points but Terry Goodkind grates on me. I'm through book 3 (which had some nice Adie and Zedd stuff, I ship them so hard), and I'm told everyone's favorite book is coming up, sooo. I'll probably keep reading.
