Hello [community profile] tv_talk!

This is your weekly opportunity to chat about non-current TV. Anything goes! Please stop by and tell us what you're watching, what you've been thinking of checking out, etc. Closed canons or something currently airing that you're just behind on -- it's all good. :)

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to chat much/reply to comments from last week. I've been out of pocket, but hopefully am around more this week to catch up on things! :)

Some possible topics:
- What show(s) have you watched this week?
- Reboots seem to be a thing. What older show would you like to see reboot on the small screen?
- 90's TV -- Seinfeld, Frasier, or ER? (marry, shag, cliff or just talk about which is your favorite/least favorite) What about Buffy, X-Files, or Babylon 5?

I really want to see a new Columbo. I vote Sam Witwer or Jeremy Sisto, and Kaley Cuoco for Mrs Columbo.

Frasier uber alles forever, forever, forever.

OMG SeaQuest! That was one of the first shows whose cancellation I remember being really upset about.

It's funny you mention E.R. For some reason I've been dying to watch it; they used to play episodes back-to-back on TNT (preceded by Angel!), and I can't understand why it's not syndicated somewhere.

I'm honestly more interested in fresh, original stories rather than reboots. There's just so much recycled content lately.

This week I watched the second episode of the second season of Defiance, the 13th episode of The Originals, the first 12 episodes of the ninth season of Bones (for the first time), the most recent episodes of The Leftovers, True Blood, Murder in the First, Manhattan, Masters of Sex and Graceland and I rewatched the 9th episode of Agents of SHIELD.

I guess I've been watching a lot of TV this week!

I'm not really big on reboots to be honest. Just not my thing usually.

I was never into either Seinfeld or Frasier but I did watch ER in the early days.
I never watched Babylon 5, I watched some of X-Files, but I wasn't that into it and I loved Buffy (and still do)!!!

- What show(s) have you watched this week?
The Divide, Project Runway, and Extant. I'm on the fence with regards to The Strain so I'm watching that show at a much slower pace.

- Reboots seem to be a thing. What older show would you like to see reboot on the small screen?

None, really. At least, none of the really obvious candidates. I remember hearing that the CW was thinking of rebooting Charmed and I was like "why?". Like someone said upthread, I'd much rather prefer new/original content being produced than TPTB messing around with a show because "it's a sure thing". Newsflash: it isn't always (see: the reboots for Ironside, Knight Rider).

Maybe if they were to reboot something that'd be cult/less well-known? Like, I don't know, Manimal or Sapphire and Steele?

- 90's TV -- Seinfeld, Frasier, or ER? (marry, shag, cliff or just talk about which is your favorite/least favorite) What about Buffy, X-Files, or Babylon 5?

I'd probably shag Seinfeld. Never watched Frasier or ER so I don't feel I'm in the position to marry or cliff them.

From the second batch, I'd probably marry X-Files, shag Buffy and cliff Babylon 5. Or, if I could switch them for other shows, I'd marry Xena, shag La Femme Nikita (USA network version with Peta Wilson), and cliff Friends. \o?

Extant is...watchable? To me, it's perfect as a summer show because I don't think the premise would work if it went past its 13-episode order. In all truth, I'm mostly watching it because one of my co-workers is super into it. I've been a "bad influence" on her by getting her into American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, and other TV shows. Considering most of "our" shows are on hiatus, we've been watching random TV shows (Extant, The Divide, The Strain) and chit-chatting about them.

At this point, I don't think it has enough momentum to go past this season. :|

I really have no idea why anyone would think the viewers needed a new and improved version of Knight Rider. It's kinda like when someone said they wanted to reboot Murder, She Wrote (apparently forgetting that the original was really a really loopy mystery show. And I'm saying this as a fan).

Like I said before, I'm generally not a fan of reboots. If the original version was a success, it's really hard to replicate that. Unless several changes take place to the point that it's a whole new show. YMMV.

LOL, I remember not going anywhere on Friday nights until after that week's episode of The X-Files. The move to Sunday nights was ideal because it meant that my friends and I could have potluck viewing parties. FWIW, the parties ended right at the beginning of S7 because the plot got wonky and everyone lost interest on the show.

Oh, and Tuesday nights were about the CW (then called the WB) network with the double Jossverse whammy of Buffy and Angel.

But then, we had to watch the shows live (or, at the very least, record them on our vcrs) because none of them were readily available like most shows are nowadays. ;P

About the only hope I had was that TNT would pick up a cancelled show to air in reruns because many of those shows weren't out on VHS even!

Just got to reply:

Marry Frasier (show and character really, heh), shag ER (most of the characters too) and cliff Seinfeld. I never found Seinfeld funny and didn't enjoy the show though I have watched it.
