Elementary 2x01 Discussion Post

Elementary is back! And as the promos kept reminding me every single commercial break on CBS, they were in London.
Share your thoughts in comments. Obviously there will be spoilers.
And Tash, this entry needs a show tag.

The bit where Sherlock is chasing the guy in Washington Square Park. I SAW THEM FILM THAT.
I liked Lestrade through out most of the episode, but taking credit for Sherlock's findings was a dick move and made me not like him so much anymore.
I'm not all that fond of Mycroft, but I liked him better at the end of the episode than when he first appeared. I blame Mark Gatiss and RP for this.
And the tl;dr word barf as I was watching version is over at my LJ. I fail at cross posting.

It's interesting how many different ways they can elaborate on the addiction theme--using LeStrade like that was...unusual. I wonder if he'll be making more appearances.
Loved Mycroft; wondering how much Sherlock refused to observe vs. how much he didn't mention, because I doubt he didn't notice the graft scar.
Also: JOAN IS SO BAMF THIS EP. With the martial arts and the noticing. She's so amazing. <3

Maybe I'll warm up to him Mycroft more if he returns. I've been thinking about and I think what bothers me the most about him is that he doesn't work for the government because that is book canon. Clearly that's not the only place they've diverged, but it's the only one that really bothers me.
Joan was awesome. She's totally my favorite.

i think this ep would have benefited by being a two parter, but that's ok.

The promo for next week's looks really cool. And I won't be comparing Sean Pertwee and Rhys Ifans to Rupert Graves and Mark Gatiss the whole time.

I loved Mycroft. I'm not familiar with much of the book canon, so I'm indifferent to his career, but
I have a special place in my heart for Bell, so his (brief) appearance made me smile. Oh, thank god this show is back.

I'm glad to see that Sherlock's recovery isn't treated as something from the past, but an ongoing process. On that front, it was interesting that when Joan suggested working on Step 9, there was no protest of, "you're not my sober companion anymore." Perhaps they've built a level of mutual understanding and trust such that they don't feel the need to maintain such strict boundaries? Anyway it felt like a nice continuation of their discussion last season, when Sherlock confessed his relapse to Joan not as his (former) sober companion but as his friend. Though I do hope to see more Alfredo this season! As well as more development/backstory for Joan.
